So I'm feeling the itch to buy a new edc knife to give my well loved BM555 Mini Grip a break for a while  I've narrowed down the choices to either a BM Mini Bone Collector, a BM Doug Ritter Mini RSK MK-1 (assuming they're even available) OR a Spyderco Manix 2. Any suggestions or comparisons from anyone would be awesome thanks!

Welcome to the forums, TxSxB!

All of your possibilities are good ones. I have the full size Ritters, want a full size Bone Collector and recently bought two Manix 2 knives. Frankly, I think they are all terrific knives that are well worth the money. However, in this case I am going to recommend the Manix 2 as being one of the best made, safe and durable knives I have seen in a long time. The Manix 2 just instantly feels right, from a comfort and balance point of view. As well, the caged ball lock inspires confidence, all the while giving much of the pluses of the Axis lock. However, you will win, whichever knife you choose!

I agree with A.P.F. I've had all of the knives you mentioned. Just be aware that the Manix 2 is a somewhat larger knife than the other two you are considering, if that makes any difference.

My choice out of the three would be the BC. I really love my mini in GRN/BLK G10. It's a great all around user for EDC chores, very tough, easy to open & close, and has a thicker blade than the mini-RSK. I like a stouter blade and D2 for my EDC chores. I'm not a pure slicer very often. I have to puncture things, cut wiring and zip ties, and other things that make me appreciate a thicker blade and a tough steel.

I just got a large Bone Collector and love it. I would think the small one would be the same, just....well, just smaller.

I don't do Spyderco's, but the Manix 2 gets a LOT of good press, as do most of their knives. I'm sure it would be worth the money!!:D

Well thank you for the kind welcome  How maintenance intensive is D2 steel? I work in a meat department so it would spend a lot of its time slicing open bloody tubes of ground beef, opening boxes, cutting plastic straps etc. Would I have to clean the cow blood on it immediately after using it to prevent rust or would it just need a oil wipe down once a day?

D2 is a semi-stainless steel with 12 to 12.5% of chromium. Stainless steel is called stainless when the chromium content becomes 13% or greater. As far as using it and exposing it to blood; blood is sorta corrosive and I would probably wash the blade at the end of work, everyday. If it is going to cut food, then I would not wipe it down with oil, unless it is a food grade product.
Back to the blood for a moment. If it got a lot of blood on it at one time, I would wash it then and there.

Just pulled the trigger on a Benchmade Mini Bone Collector in black. Sould be here early next week. :D
