I am thinking of putting the date the knife is finished and the knife number, 10-21-2000-12, and the steel type on the reverse side of the blade. Do you folks think thats too much for a knife or would like to have the info on a custom made??? Thanks!!! Michael

I like the logo.
I do a brochure with each knife. It includes a picture, date bought, type of handle etc
Everything you put on the blade or handle is one more thing you can screw up. When it's done it's done don't push it.
Take care

I think it's good to have that as an option for the customer if you are willing to do it.

With knives I am one of the believers in simple elegance, that less can be more.

So I don't usually get carried away with a logo.

I have had several requests for a date and number made to be added to the knife.

I can see where it would be pretty cool, but for the most part, I think that if you give the customer some sort of certificate with the knife that that's enough.

I don't know...I'd be tempted to suggest that if you really want all that on the blade, you might put it on the tang. However, I get the feeling that this wouldn't accomplish what you're working towards, would it?

Oh, well...I tend to agree that everything you do to a blade is an opportunity to screw it up. And I know that I don't need many opportunities, m'self...

Damn! That wasn't supposed to explode...yet!

L_6 i number & date my limited run blades, but not my culinary knives. jim fergushon of twisted nickel knives that makes damuscus complemented me on that when i had a chance to talk with him at a cal knives assoc meeting. he said its a smart thing to do because as you gain a client base it raises the collector value of your work. he was right! i now have two customers that want to know when ever i start a new model they want to get the lowest # possible

Thanks for the input guys!! I include a card with my knives that I write the blade and handle info on and sign and date it, so I guess I'll forget putting the info on the blade.

Case knives are the masters of collectibles. People collect knives because they like toys. Toys are more fun in secret code. Collectors all over the world would be buying Michaels code book (at 29.95) to see what dolphin / star / hammer means.

Rob!

Hey Michael are you that good or is the engraver that easy to use. If that is a first effort, it is very impressive.

Rob, it is so simple a kid could do it. The only tricky part is lining everything up and thats just a case of trial and error. If anyone is looking for a good engraver, keep an eye out on Ebay for a New Hermes Engravograph. Thats where I got mine.I'm going to try making some custom stencils or guides that if they work, I'll be able to engrave decorative scrolls and such on bolsters and folder frames. No reason it shouldn't work, just gotta take my time and make them real intricate. I'll post some pix when I get some done.

When Ogg was still making knive he numbered every single knife he made. Just started with #1 and went right on from there.
I always thought that was a great idea - you can guage where he was in his career by that number.
Just my thoughts...

Well, I decided to go ahead with the date and number of knife serial number deal. I did 4 drop points with it and since it's engraved, it looks real good. Thanks guys!! Michael

god move L-6, you should be able to command a higher price as soon as your clients notice.for me it has been a increase of up to a $100.00 so far, and i have only been at it for 3 1/2 years. i feel blessed by the lord!
