The 4 and the 5 are sort of different knives. The 5 is a brickhouse tank of a work horse that's somewhat of a jack of all trades but master of none (it can pry, but it's not a prybar, it can chop but it's not a machete or a hatchet, it can carve but it's not a smaller thinner knife). This is I'm sure why the SERE guys like it so much, it does everything you need it to do well enough to be the only knife you effectively need in an extreme survival situation.which is the more useful knife in everybodys opinion and what are the uses of both the esee 4 and the esee 5
Some people would say the 3 would be a better EDC and the 4 would be a better camp knife and the 5 is just a sharpened crowbar that is overkill and only a good showpiece. Some wouldn't EDC anything bigger than an Izula. It's all in perspective.+1 to what adaman04 said...
For me the 4 would be an EDC knife, while the 5 would be better suited for hiking and camping.
But what works for me... might not be the same for you...
