I'm starting out a new job shortly, and will be need an edc pack as my old camelbak mule is too small for a laptop. As this is a temporary job I plan on using the bag a a woods bumming pack in the off time. Could really use a hand here since it appears theres a sea of decently made packs out there.

Here are some guidelines:

PALS webbing or MOLLE webbing not sure on the differences but I have a handful of things that would attach to it (rc-3 molle back, some pouches etc)

Needs to be able to fit a standard sized laptop, so inner pocket of 15.5" X 10 or 11"

Preferably not an over all big pack, standard book bag size should do fine.

Waterbladder pouch would be a huge plus

Heres the kicker; Needs to be a friendly color to school people/office folk. I have a feeling thats going to be a hard one. :o

I really like the maxpedition falcon 2 in the blue, but I can't tell if it'll fit my laptop's minimum measurement of 9 3/4" X 14 3/4"

Appreciate any help you guys can give:thumbup:

How about this:

Malga Gearslinger

or this:

Sitka Gearslinger

I carry one of the older ones like about the size of the Malga at work in black. Never gets a stare. I recently bought the Kodiak and find that really nicely designed and easy to carry on or off of the back though I don't usually use that one for work. Both mine are in black but the khaki or green shouldn't really draw much attention I don't think. My black never gets a second start.

Actually after reading your size requirement you are looking at the Sitka and probably the Kodiak.
Like I said. I have recently purchased the Kodiak and really like it.

Kodiak Gearslinger

I have a Falcon II and love it also. Its Dimension: 18"(H) x 9.5"(W) x 5.5"(D) Main Compartment

If it fits, it will be tight.

i don't think the malaga will fit that laptop...sitka probably...pygmy falcon probably...falcon yes; has area for bladder, good choice of colors; it's pretty big capacity though...

Thanks for the thoughts guys!

Not so sure how I feel about gear slingers or messanger bag styles, the kodiak sure is a neat one though.

Figure the falcon has enough give to fit that extra quarter inch in width i'd need for the laptop? The royal blue one looks killer. Also spent some time looking at the condor, I figure foliage green is a fairly neutral color.

I don't mind school bag sized packs, and the narrow width of the falcon is appealing, its just hard to picture things off of dimensions. will look for some pics of "on back" use.

L.L.Bean Quad Pack:
All the streamlined styling and features of a hiking pack, with plenty of pockets for a laptop and books

Or see if either of these looks good:

Frankly, forget the MOLLE if you're going business. "Attachments" can fit inside the bag unless you meed a multitool or compass in mere seconds. I don't know how a bladder would fit these, but a Nalgene fits anywhere.

FWIW if don't work with business white collar work. But I build alot of buildings. I just finished a T-moble building. A compaound with 7 buildings average 6-8 stories. Tells me there's alot of workers. I see alot of " Tacitcal" bags with molle. The Microsoft compound also. Thats' a whole city of buildings. IMHO most ppl don't care about your bag. What's the budget?

Not looking to spend much more than $150.

And I think thats a similar enviroment/mentality of people are hear so thanks for the info!

Maxpedition Vulture II is a wonderful pack. I have beat the snot outta mine and it's still like new. You can get a black one... 50% of backpacks are black. Don't think anyone would notice a thing about a black pack. They also have foliage green which is a basic shade of gray bsically. Both colors are pretty bland and wouldn't attract attention. Now if you have a knife on the outside of it... that will attract plenty of attention. LOL. Tan is a pretty friendly color as well. Looks professional with Kahki pants. Or if you're not set on a backpack grab a messenger bag. Maxpedition and Eagle both make really nice ones.

Just jumping into this conversation quick, also looking for an upgraded EDC-pack and thinking about Maxped, either the Malaga or Sitka:
Would any proud owner of a Maxped Malaga mind posting a few photos of them wearing/using the bag to a purpose, like on a hike or actually moving? I've seen the Milspec Monkey review photos, but he seems to be of small stature, and there's also a youtube vid of some toddler reviewing the pack, but both of them seem more to be "modelling" the bag as opposed to actually using it.
What I want to know is, does it strap HIGH and TIGHT so as not to wiggle around too much when one is moving at a good pace, and so as not to sag onto one's hips/buttocks the way the above-mentioned reviewers wear it in their pics/vids? For me, an EDC-pack is never heavy enough to require your hips to bear the weight, but maybe my shoulders are stonger:rolleyes:

Anybody willing to post some photos of the malaga in action?
