Need some tips to help me finish the wooden knife I carved!

So I'm a beginner at carving and making knives in general but I've got most of it down pretty well. However there are some things I need help with and google is failing me, and I'd love to have some input from fellow knife makers!

Info:
-I found a piece of wood up at hood river near a creek that miraculously already resembled a knife with a thumb space and all.
-It's pretty dry from what I can tell, I've carved it all the way for the most part and no moisture has come out.

What I need help with:
-The area where a handle would be is pretty short and I am wondering how I could "add" to it to make it longer/give it a better grip?
-How would I go about sealing it? I was thinking I would use it for hunting/fishing/protection??? And I guess anything else it would allow me to. I was thinking I could use a mixture of olive oil and beeswax to moisturize it and then put super glue on the edge to make it stronger and then either use clear high gloss outdoor spray paint or clear nail polish to seal everything?

I can post pictures if needed. Any input would be great. Thank you so much!

There is plenty of information out there. You need to search the Forums and Sub Forums.

I figured there is, I'm giving this as a birthday present to someone and trying to finish it as soon as possible. Also new to this website and thought starting a forum with my exact questions would be easier than searching around for who knows how long. But thank you for the info! I'll check around the site.

I use Tru Oil to finish my wood handles. You're going to use a wooden knife for hunting and fishing?

I'm just making it so that it could possibly have those capabilities. If I had a preference I will go with anything but wood. But I like my projects to have a use. Thank you, I'll have to try out Tru Oil!
