Guys I find myself in need of a 3-4 piece travel spinning rod. I am taking a trip to visit my sister in law in Tampa in about a month and the apt complex she lives in had 5 private lakes so of course I will get some time on the water in. However transporting my one piece rods will be difficult so can anyone recommend me something in the $50 range or point me in the direction of a good place to go shopping. I have not purchased any new rods and reels in almost 10 years as my old Shimano stuff still works but I need a portable rod to match up to my Stradic 2000 reel.

I use an old Wright & McGill Trailmaster rod. You can pick them up on the bay for around 50 bucks in really good shape and they come packed in a really sturdy aluminum case. MIne is in my trunk right now but it's usually in the truck with me whenever I'm working. Just in case I get the chance...

Another option is the Shakespeare Travel Mate combo, $30-40. Comes in a plastic travel case that also fits the reel (disassembled). I keep one in the car.

I also have one of the Eagle Claw / Wright & McGill Trailmaster rods in my truck that protourist recommended. Mine is the vintage fiberglass version with aluminum tube and there is a newer graphite rod version in a soft case. I have rarely used it as I typically tote a pack fly rod but it is well made and reliable.

Go with a good telescoping rod in your price range.

you can leave the rod strung through the guides and carefully collapse it with the lure tied. Then you can just pop the bail open/ stretch out the rod and fish within 30 seconds.

Perfect for the trunk

I have a good one from shimano and a cheap ozark trail that has been a great rod for the $

It looks like a joke I know but the emmrod is a winner I've used one and seen them used with great success. Now I was using mine setup for ultra light fishing and thanks to the new lines braids, mono, ect I believe I was using 8 or 10lb line. Had several great days of smallmouth fishing. You need to go to emmrods website to see the different rods and get a better understanding of how it all works. It's cool!
