Need some website feedback! :)

Hey all,

I could use some feedback on my new website I'm working on from the collective wisdom of the forum. Could you guys check it out and let me know if you see any major issues with the look and alignment of things on it, especially in the refractory and supplies sections?

I'm running IE with a screen resolution of 800x600 and medium font and everything looks perfect with it, but when I view the pages in Firefox the columns in the RHS that are supposed to be centered aren't showing correctly...it's like I have to explicitly center each item in the column instead of the entire column at once, and it seems Firefox needs explicit line breaks...life was much easier when all there was was IE, Netscape, and Lynx! Anyway, knowing that I could be staring right at other issues and not seeing them since I'm working on the pages, it's always good to have feedback from others...

I've also added a shopping cart. One of the problems with the cart is that I can't define carrier based shipping rates and fixed fee rates (for USPS Flat Rate items) at the same time...can only use one or the other. What I've done as a work around is to have two sets of "add to cart" buttons...one which calculates items together using carrier based rates and the other that has the shipping for USPS Flat Rate already factored in (and doesn't use carrier based rates). Is this clear enough when you view the pages with the supplies and the cart? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make it as clear as possible? I want to be able to offer the Flat Rate shipping as it can potentially save people money, but I'm not entirely sure if my multiple "add to cart" buttons are very clear...

If anyone has any suggestions about anything for the site, I'd certainly welcome the feedback!

I'm using Mac OSX with Safari as my browser (rather similar to Firefox) and everything seems to look great and work great. Didn't try to use the shopping cart yet (although I think I'm going to order a few more bricks and some more pyroceram soon).
Everything seems to work great! Didn't see any areas off center, and everything looked 'right', if you follow me.
You may wish to switch to a larger font type, as most of the old timers hear are going to whine about having to use their quad-focals to see some of it... or maybe this is your way of filtering out IG?:D ;)

Looks ok to me...IE6 on WindowsXP at 1024x768. When you gonna put up the cutlery and RAZORS for me to look at while I save up to have you make me one?

How's it going Darren? The site looks great, and your discriptions of the products are very professional,(as always) I wish I had a way with words like you do....I'll try to send you some pictures of my shop....I have the forge you made set up and also my big forge that I got from Bowie....Give me a call some time, I'd love hearing from you. :D

Your new site looks a lot better in Firefox than the old one even with the occasional alignment problem. The old one overlaid text and images such that it was basically illegible. The new one is clean, well designed and does have these problems.

That said, I do see some buttons and combo boxes in the right column left justified instead of centered. It seems pretty random.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback! I think I got all of the alignment problems fixed now...at least I don't see any using both IE and Firefox... I appreciate all of you taking the time to look things over for me. Also got the double text off of the Nelsonite page.

Hope to get the gallery sections up soon, have to find my images CD...cleaned my office before Christmas and haven't found it yet...it's here somewhere! If not, well, today the UPS guy dropped off our new Canon Digital Rebel XT camera and light tent...whoohoo...now, hopefully I won't be so embarrassed of the pictures I take! :) ...once I get over the digital camera learning curve...

Hammerface, we are happy to ship to Canada or any international location. Our shopping cart doesn't do international orders, so just shoot me an email and I can work up a shipping quote for you.

p.s. Kricket (Jim!) good to hear from you...and congrats on getting into Blade magazine! I'll have to give you a call some time so we can chat..also, send those pictures along...I'm going to be working on the Forge Gallery pages soon and can add your stuff to them...and anyone else who wants to send stuff too! :)

oh, also, I.G. filter...that was a good one! :) yep, we should all have an I.G. filter in place! :D

Looks good Darren, to the point and user friendly. Some sites can confuse the heck out of the viewer, no "busy" stuff to distract.

Did you use a template of some sort or did you design it on your own?

I like it.

Mike

To me the site looked good (Win XP, IE6, 1024x768). I too liked the clean clutter-free design. Good on ya for eliminating pictures from the navigation pages, which makes the pages load faster, and sticking with text buttons. As our old buddy Joe Friday used to say, "Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts."

Congrats on the new camera and lightbox. If you follow the link in my signature, it leads to a bunch of tutorials, tips, techniques, and info on photographing knives.
