Need some wood (in a folder)

I went through my G10 phase and have plenty of good G10 folders (not that I'll ever have enough), and went through my Ti phase (got a few that I still keep around), and finally I got CF crazy and own more than a few folders with CF scales.

I've been thinking of picking up another CRK small Sebenza, but this time going with wood inlays. To be honest though, I really just don't like tiny little inlays like that (I prefer the entire scale to be one solid material - aside from maybe a good looking bolster).

I find myself looking at Remington's cheaper line of laminate wood knives and thinking to myself "man, that looks good" and I've even looked at the Benchmade/lone-wolf Swale, but there are just a few things keeping me from picking that one up.

I'm really looking for a modern-day locking knife (I like them at or under 3"), and not so much at a traditional (I've got a few smooth bone and wooden scaled traditionals and I love them).

What is out there in the sub $300 market? This is just going to be a stardard-use EDC (I don't abuse my knives, I just cut stuff with them) and doesn't need to be anything super-tough, but I'm considering either getting some custom scales for an existing Spyderco or Kershaw vs buying something that exists out there. I like plain-edge knives with decent steel (I sharpen all mine, but I'm lazy and don't like to have to touch-up every day).

What exists out there?

Phil Dobson in Butte,MT does incredible re scaleing work, if that is the road you go down. Sage 4 has a nice look to it.

A friend has the BM Bone Collector in walnut, it's a beautiful modern folder with great build quality.

As much as I like the Sage Series, I still can't get over the fact that the Sage 4 has those ugly black screws right in the middle of the scales (despite the all satin/unfinished metal on the knife) and somehow, it's just never spoke to me like the others in that series. Still, it's very nice looking and I do find myself occasionally staring at it - ready to pull the trigger at an online retailer.

This is actually the one I'm considering the most. If I had no other suggestions, it's probably what I would have gone with and I'm glad to hear it's as pretty in person as it is online. I owned the small green G10 version and actually still regret getting rid of it, but I just never carried it. I think I would carry the Walnut version though.

Appreciate all the input so far!

Buck Custom Shop might be able to make you up a real nice S30V and wood 110. I've been thinking of that myself lately.
The Sebenza Annual knife has a nice larger wood inlay, bigger than the regular inlays.
William Henry has a knife with an oval inlay, really nice looking too.
If you have a Benchmade Grip or MniGrip, consider getting it rescaled in wood, they look amazing when completed.
Great Estern Cutlery offers many traditional patterns in wood too. Some of the blades are large, depending on the model.

I always kick myself for not getting into the Vantage before the Rosewood Avid came out and I wondered if the Buck custom shop would put a Vantage together for someone, but I never really considered the 110 in that equation. That actually sounds pretty cool.

The wooden scales on the Griptilian was another thing I considered.

EZ Bake, there are some pictures floating around here of a really nice collection of 110s. They handle material ranges from antler to mammoth ivory to wood to bone. All different blade steels too. I don't think BG-42 is still available, but S30V in a 110 would be a really nice one. I wonder if you could mail them some wood and ask them to use it on your folder. Hmmm... :D

try and find a Lone Wolf Blackfoot in ebano wood scales!
I had one like it and regret trading it:(
It's a small but very comfortable and tough pocket tank:) Plus, it comes in razor sharp s30v!
I highly recommend it

I just ordered a Boker Plus Exskelimoor II. 2 7/8" 440C blade, blue anodized Ti liners and pocket clip, bog oak scales, weighs 2.2 oz. $50 shipped BIN on the auction site.

I like my Exskelimoors as well. I've got a large and a small and they are both well executed. Boker does an excellent job with their 440-C. The Ti liners on my large one were a little sharp, but a quick hit with a fine stone took care of that. They are also an open back design with Blue Ti standoffs. These are good looking knives and are a great value for what they cost.

Another vote for the Exskelimoors. I have the Exskelimoor I and it is a quite attractive knife for the price

Got wood?

I wish I had that kind of money. Bob's knives are awesome, but at that price, I've got a few others in-line in front of him (not that it matters because I'd have to hit the lottery to afford any of them and at that point, I'd buy all of them... hell, customs for everyone!).

This is one I plan on purchasing at some point, it's not a one hand opener, but it does have a pocket clip and back lock, as well as D2 blade. I handled it at Bladehq and liked the feel, its surprisingly light actually.

Oh, and lots of choices in the Mcusta line, both thumbhole and thumbstud as well as a couple different types of wood, this one is quince.

I have the large bone collector with walnut and it's a really great knife. The modern style with the wood really has something for most kind of collectors. Also with it coming in 2 different sizes you won't feel stuck with Just the large size. All of the other options were nice but I personally prefer the bone collector.
