I am looking for a specific bearing number preferably a Timken Bearing for the press in bearing on a 10" grinding wheel. The industry standards description for this bearing is as follows:

R82RS-1/2" x 1 1/8" x 5/16"

But try as I might I can't reference that to a Timiken bearing on their site. Does anyone know the part number that corresponds to the
R82RS-1/2" x 1 1/8" x 5/16" designation.

I think I may have over tightened the nut holding the wheel when I re installed it this time and that caused the bearing to go. I ran it a minute and it was sounding funny. I realized the noise was coming from the wheel, and backed off the nut, but the damage was done the outside bearing went!!!!!!!!!!!

Fafnir makes a 1/2" Id x1 1/8" Od by 5/16" wide double mechanical sealed bearing.
Its # is S5KDD
I use them on my smaller wheels. But use a 3/4" Id on the bigger ones.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dixie -

R8-2rs is the bearing number - just take that number to your local bearing supply and they will have what you want (probably even a timken / torrington).

best regards -

That's a standard inch serial radial ball bearing, usually used in electric motors. -2RS means "two rubber seals" (2ZZ would mean 2 foil sheilds).

Some cross references for it: SR8KDD (Barden), MMS5KDD (Fafnir, which Timken owns), SR8DD (NH, long gone), ...

Hey Man,
I will be driving home from new orleans on friday sometime or another. If you cant find it in your area or a little to the west, look around Mobile Biloxi, here in New orleans or somewhere in between. If you can find it somewhere close to I-10 between here and there, I'll pick it up for you. I'll try to give you a call in the morning some time to give you an idea when we will be leaving this area.

Thanks Rob I think I can get it here locally. I was just hoping for a part number to reference to a Timkin to make the whole process easier. I don't know why but I have used Timkin bearings for years and always have good luck with them. I have an automotive supply here in town that if they don't have it in stock they usually can have it the next day but thanks anyway!
Thanks everyone for the information!

An auto supplier may not have it, but bearing shops usually keep those on the shelf because electric motor shops use them.

You can try an electric motor repair shop too, they will likely have them in stock.

Since they are so common, they can be very cheap - depending on the brand and retailer.
$ 2-3 each for the china ones.

You may want to install a spacer bushing in the centre to avoid the possibility of over tightening again.

I have been told they use that same bearing in transmissions I guess that is something I will have to check out! Thanks I have already thought of the spacer and have bronze bushing cut to fit. I was in a hurry and slapped down the nut to tight without thinking. I done some grinding the other day with it like that and when I turned it on yesterday I knew something was wrong almost immediately. It don't take long when you over pressure them to ruin them.
