Hey guys,

I have been a huge fan of folding knives for years.... I own a lot of chris reeve knife and slip joint.

Recently I am starting to lust the strong big bowie knife. Yet I realized that I knew nothing about the hunting knife world.

I wish to get a strong bowie knife around 10 inches or longer. I do not want cheap production knife. I prefer small batch production knife, semi-custom knife, or custom knife without the incredible prices. However, This need to be a knife I could use, abuse, and take with me while camping. So No exotic materials like Damascus, or Mokuti, Mokume, Timascus, etc. on the handle. O1,D2,A2,S35VN,M390 are welcomed...

Thanks!

BTW, I am willing to pay high price for great design and machine.... But I refused to pay big bucks for impractical reasons.

How about the Respect Bowie by Spyderco? It doesn't have a full tang however, so perhaps not as "strong" as you're hoping. Edit: I think this would count as small batch production but who knows.

We all do.

So do you want a camp knife like a BK-9 (for example), or a "historical" Bowie, which is a fighting knife, like a Cold Steel Natchez (for example).

They are really 2 different things.

On the low end, Condor Undertaker bowie is pretty classic and interesting. Probably not expensive enough for you.

You talk about Bowie’s and hunting knife. They are different things. Buck 119 best hunting knife for the money. Buck 124 best Bowie for the money. Best all around sheath knife? Becker Kephart bk62.

First decide whether you want a modern style or a traditional style. TOPS makes some big ones, but they look modern, and don't have the traditional guard. Linder Crocodile Hunter is very big, it's a half guard bowie in C60 German carbon steel. Linder makes a lot of bowies, but most of them are in stainless. Bark River makes some large ones, and they range from traditional to modern. Cold Steel has three: Trailmaster, Laredo, and Natchez, but they are not semi-custom. The San Mai versions are very high quality though. Busse makes small batches of modern style bowies. Dawson also makes modern style bowies. Busse and Dawson are semi-customs. You would have to wait for a Busse. For Dawson, keep checking their site.

I am gonna make a some practical suggestions. Both ka bar and Condor have nice knives at a good price. I find these 1095/1075 carbon steel choppers to do well as a camp/outdoor knife. The steel can be touched up easily in the field with basic sharpening medium ala river stone. The bk9 has excellent reviews and I think they even call it a combat bowie, its also popular among bushcrafters. Might fit the bill. But really you should take a peek over both those companies catalogs as they both make some great knives.

Ah well disregard comment. I re read your post and a production knife doesnt fit your bill. My apologies

I always like the look of Svord Tempsky Bowie, but think the price is too high, they do make a smaller bowie. I also like some of the knives from GL Drew on the forum. Check out the knife makers sale section.
