I go through a lot of razors, four bladed ones even. And they are pricey. Is there an alternative to switch to? If I go more than 3 or 4 days without shaving I'm already pretty much screwed and have to go through a long ritual. I'm on about day 4 now and I'm not looking forward to it.

(That’s what I do after 4+ days. And my wife cuts my hair with it, too. Very reliable and low maintenance)

I'd do a combo, an electric clipper set, and an adjustable Double edge, that way if you are four days in, you can knock down the stubble quickly, and then run a couple passes with the DE at whatever setting suits your face. You could also look at slant style DEs as they are a bit more aggressive and don't clog that easily, but in general most people find they can do a couple passes with a DE and get the smoothness level they want, and blades are very cheap.

I’ve been using my grandfather’s safety razor since my father gave it to me when I was 5. ( I didn’t get blades until I was a teenager.) It uses the standard double edged blades.

A mug and a brush and a safety razor most economical way to shave and it doesn’t clog like a disposable.

Interesting that when I researched my Grandfather’s razor it ended up being a Gillette military issued one from WWII

I would second all the above board members wonderful salient, instructive and informative replies and to be honest, I don`t use my cheapie Chinese straight razors or reconditioned vintage German cut-throats very often because of time constraints etc.
I find traditional shaving so relaxing and satisfying though.

I had a lovely metal Wahl trimmer but I can`t find it so...

Nowadays I use a cheap Chinese rechargeable trimmer - only cost $15 if I`m a bit bushy first then I use a budget DE with good quality carbon steel or Japanese stainless blades like Treet Blacks and Feathers.
Sometimes I shave in the kitchen sink for convenience because I have shaving tackle on the windowsill and toothbrushes etc downstairs - I don`t need a mirror or shaving brush or fancy soap.

I am used to shaving in the North Sahara desert in Egypt and Palestine with less than a pint of water - I am not kidding - times were tough !

Ooh a 1940`s all stainless butter knife snuck in on the draining board; I have nearly stopped buying knives and scissors; no need and no room anymore but I love looking at all the gorgeous members kit which puts my cheap junk to shame and I learn everyday - Thank You very much everyone for having me !

I know just how you feel PsychoSword PsychoSword - I leave my face alone for a few days then it looks like my back garden - see piccy above - A stitch in time saves nine haha !
My excuse is I am disabled and retired and I don`t see my lady every day !
If I used a mirror I would be horrified and a bit ashamed of myself; was a bachelor too long !
