I'm looking for a small fixed blade in D2 somewhere between the Benchmade H20 and the new Ritter fixed blade. I'm looking for something in a flat grind that is all business. It need not be tactical or have fancy handles. Id actually prefer it be very simple with removable handle scales for cleaning but its not a must. It will be for outdoor use only and see no impacts or prying. I plan on keeping a toothy grind on it for use with wood, camping fabrics, tough rubber and plastics. Its going in my pack gear and should things get out of hand it could be a while before it gets a touch up. I would just get a Rat3 but I'm hearing that ontario doesnt do that great of a job with D2's tricky heat treat. My main criteria is how long it can hold a quality edge and that it be between 3" to 5".

All I can find on the DMKnives site is S30V, ATS34 and a 154cm. Am I not looking in the right spot? I do like his designs. I think Bob Dozier's designs are a little showier than I want. I'm not looking for aesthetics at all. A nice grippy kraton handle would be perfect.

Dozier knives are users 120%. Just email both makers.

I am trying not to plug my stuff.

two names to add to your custom list: Gene Ingram and Charles May. I've done a fair bit of business with Gene and he's a fantastic maker who specializes in D2- same with Charles May. Nice guys, GREAT work.

I think that johnny0 has given you just the right equasion!!

Go Dozier

That outbounder looks like its going to hit the spot. I dont know hth I missed that on the BM site. It looks like its been around a while too since its in my RSR catelog from feb of this year.

I do like all the customs but since this is going to be hard use and possibly lost I would be absolutely devestated if I lost a custom.

The Outbounder was offered in a 440C version up until recently. I had the 440C version, sold it hoping that I would one day get a D2 version. Make sure you're ordering the D2 version before you commit to purchasing. Just a heads up.

I am gonna go ahead and back the RAT3 the one I own has held its edge like D2 is supposed to and its got a very toothy edge at that. I have had no problems with mine. However if you have the money for a dozier, I would not choose the RAT3 over the dozier as they are much nicer and pleasing knives.
