Need Suggestions for EDC Knives with 3.75 to 4 inch Blades Under $75…..

Hey all.

I need some ideas. I’m going to buy a birthday gift for a friend who is NOT a knife guy…yet. He always fiddles with my knives when he comes over. He seems to gravitate to my knives that have larger blades…from 3.75 to 4 inches, giver or take. Don’t think he minds what kinda blade style….I don’t have enough for him to see various types.

So…I’d like to get him a carry knife of his own. Something he’ll enjoy and be moved to get into this hobby where he can get exactly what he likes.

One other thing…I showed him how some of my knives have the feature that allows them to be “flicked” open with the middle finger. I loaned him one of mine that’s really easy to flick and the next time he came over he was showing off his new found skill. So, I’d like to get him something that’s easy to FLICK open.

So….if you don’t mind, can you list some that fit what I’d like yo get? I’ve got a month or so to find one….it doesn’t matter the brand.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Have a good weekend!

Not as easy to find stuff in these larger sizes that isn't overly tack(y)tical. The Fin really leans into the "high speed, low drag" stereotype, which may be appealing to your friend.

The Praxis can be had with other color combinations, so you can choose how much tactical you want to go with.

The Pyrite is a much more conventional-looking choice, if you feel like going that way.

The Civivi Teraxe is well made, well balanced, feels good in the hand, has nice lines, made in Nitro V steel, and most importantly, it easily flicks open with authority and locks up tight with no blade play or slop. It is $80.00 with free shipping on their site with (11) 5-star reviews. It feels and carries like a much more expensive knife; I have one, love it, and carried it yesterday.

I picked up this Civivi Bhaltair brand new from dealer for $64.

My pick would be the Twosun TS-412, hard to beat TS for folders in this price range. You get a blade just under 4" with titanium handles and micarta inserts. It runs on ball bearings, so very easy to open with the thumbhole, flipper, or reverse flick. The triangular hole is radiused so it's sharp enough to catch your middle finger with a reverse flick but not sharp enough to break skin. They often go for around $50 on the bay.

Cold Steel 4 Max Scout , Spartan , AD10 or AD15 "Lite " versions .

For Cold Steel, it's worth shopping around .

I would recommend some Cold Steel folders too but the easy FLICK part immediately rejects the Tri Ad lock.

The 3.75-4" blade length and sub-$75 requirements limit the OP's selections significantly. I think Rat 1 will be a solid choice.

The Scout and AD10 aren't too bad , but Cold Steel Tri-ad lock is not really about the fidget factor . 🤷‍♂️

Atlas lock actually is very fidget friendly , even on the huge "Mayhem " .

How big is the chevalier? If we want a dress style knife. Not tactical.

3.7 or .8 or something. Here is the fanciest version in wood and Damascus.

The Spyderco Resilience is a great option. I've used mine a lot. I have the G10 8cr version, which I would recommend. It has a 4.25 inch blade and cutting edge.

A size down would be a Tenacious with a 3.39 inch blade.

Some good Civivi options have been mentioned. From the same parent company, don't discount Sencut. They are very affordable for what they are and their 9Cr18Mov gets an excellent heat treatment. (It offers significantly better edge retention versus 8Cr13Mov.)

Two that come to mind are the Phantara (3.7") and their new Omniform (3.65"). Each is available with different handle colors or materials, and coated or non-coated blades. Both run on caged bearings. Both can be had under $50.

You can probably find a Spyderco Endura on the secondary market for that price. The back lock doesn't make it very flick friendly, but I can do it no problem. It's a nice big blade though & it sits flat in the pocket.
