Need suggestions for kitchen knife storage

Currently I keep my kitchen knives in a knife block, but I'm moving to a new place with a smaller kitchen and would prefer not to have the block take up the limited counter space. On the other hand, the knives aren't totally cheapo (Wusthof Grand Prix, and one rather gorgeous Shun utility knife) so I'm not so sure simply tossing them in a drawer to bang around among themselves and other utensils is a great idea either. Does anybody have ideas for a solution?

Also a magnet on the wall is an option with some.

Buy some kydex from one of the online shops, get a $20 heat gun and/or an old toaster oven, and make sleeves for them yourself. It takes very little time, and I use just a foldover (taco) construction. I'd advise putting the edge into the fold so the knife doesn't come free sideways and slice you when you're pulling it out.

Mine are shaped a little, but they don't need to be.
