Need suggestions for Voyager clip mod

I would like to attach a pocket clip near the pivot pin on a CS Voyager. The problem is that the pivot pin doesn't seem to be removable and you can't take the knife apart. I could possibly thread some screws into the Zytel, but doing this near the pivot pin might weaken the knife's structure. My reason for doing this is to make the knife easier to open after drawing it, since my thumb would already be near the thumb stud instead of at the opposite end of the knife. Perhaps a better solution would be to replace the thumbstud with some sort of a wave-type device, but I'm afraid that's beyond my metal working skills, whereas a pocket clip isn't. Any suggestions here guys?

I should add that I think my best idea so far is a very long clip that runs from the existing clip attachment point, up the side (flush with the knife) to near the pivot and then loops back to form the clip. However, I'm not sure that such a long clip would remain flush with the handle for very long. If the knife had steel liners, I would just attach the clip near the pivot. But since the knife doesn't have liners, I'm afraid that any holes I drill near the pivot might weaken the knife. And if it didn't do that, I'm not sure that screws threaded into the Zytel would hold well. I would prefer to attach them to a metal plate on the inside of the knife, but the design can't be taken apart. So my options seem limited.

Threading Zytel is not a problem. It won't hurt the knife at all to do that. I've done it many times.

I usually use a 1/16" drill bit and thread the holes with a bot type 2-56 threader attatched to the proper wrench. Just drill through with the bit until it is just short of poking out the opposite side. If you go in say 6 to 8mm that is plenty to thread. The real trick is to know when to stop twisting the wrench because if your tap bottoms out it will just break right off stuck in there for good forever unless there is enough sticking out to get a vice grip on and get it out of there. Most screws come in a 1/4" length so you should expect to thread in that far minus the thickness of the pocket clip.

It threads easy just don't go all the way to bottom. If that concerns you though just drill the holes clean through to where they come out the other side. That drill bit isn't going to put even a scratch on your hardened blade.

The Zytel is about 0.2" thick near the pivot pin. Not quite as thick as the 6 to 8mm you state, but I suppose it's close enough. Thanks for the info.
