Need suggestions on a good beginners Spyderco

Ewok,
It's for my brother actually. It's a Christmas gift. I want to get something that is not too big but not wimpy. I was thinking along the lines of mabye 3"-4" blade.

Endura, Endura, and Endura. Delica is a good choice also, but it is smaller and may, repeat, may be seen as less of a knife. In truth, it is every bit as much knife as an Endura, but your specification was in the 3"-4" blade size.

Ah, a Christmas gift. If you want something really classy, call up the Spyderco store and see if they have any of the Jess Horns with maroon Micarta handles left. Blade length is 3 1/8 in. Blade is flat ground AUS-8.

The Calypso Lt weight is a nice knife also. The blade is smaller then what you want, but its VG-10!!!

I would think that you have a choice between three Spydies for a beginning piece. I have all three with a lot of variations of each.(Once bitten by this Spyder there isn't any known cure,so they just keep piling up).
1. Delica Lt.Weight
2. Native Lt.Weight
3. Calyspo Lt.Weight

I like smooth edges but I have serrated versions also. You decide which edge would be best for your use, although sooner or later you'll have to have all of them.

Serator,

lol... nice to see you here in Spyderco's Forum.

I knew you'd show up sooner or later.

Delica is the next best thing to an Endura, and since you have that one already, I suggest going for a Delica for your brother. It has around 3" of blade. You can then probably swap with each other every once in a while.

First off I'd just like to thank everyone that replied. Everyone was right, once you buy your first spyderco you are addicted. Saying that I went with the Native for my bro and in the excitement of things I actually bought one for myself.
Thanks,
Pete

Stop when you get to bone.

Serrator,

Your only problem is that Spyderco is coming out with a 440v lightweight Native in the coming year. Guess you'll have to get another one... I will.

Oh, don't forget the Native's bigger brother, the Chief may also come out. Happy collecting.

Egad!! Now THAT is a must-have! A 440V Lightweight Native!

That's great, so I won't have to use this BF Native of mine. Too pretty to use.
