Just killed/lost three pairs in the same number of weeks.
Looking at Oakleys, any other recommended brands? Cost is not a huge deal, but the higher the price, the longer I gotta wait. Looking to ideally spend 100 bucks plus or minus some.
Help!!!

They often have Serengeti sunglasses (Ground Corning optics) at a big discount when on sale. I bought several $135.00 glasses for $39.99 on sale.

They also sometimes have deals on Bolle, Nikon and several others.

Nobody seems to ever have a deal on Oakleys.

Just my humble opinion.

What do you want them for? For general use, Oakley is fine, if a little unoriginal. If you're into funky plastic sunglasses, I think Spy Optic makes a better looking line, plus they're made in Italy - how cool is that?

These are good for mountain biking

I personally wouldn't wear these but they're cool

I like these

Sunglasses are a really personal thing, so it's tough to give a reccomendation. For non-sports use, I like something a little more classic looking, which usually involves a wire frame. I've gone through over half a dozen sets of Oakleys, Arnettes, Spys (Spies?) etc. over the years and there isn't a pair that I really miss. I like Spy right now, but they're pretty much all the same in the end. Just get whatever you think looks good.

I'd take these over any plastic frames...
but they're $300

Not to be a smart pants..........But..
at the rate of three pair in three weeks wouldn't
the cheaper drugstore glasses be more cost
effective???

Hey tightwad,
One of em was a cheap pair that I left in the seat of my car and broke by sitting on them. #2 was a mid range pair that I left at the mall. #3 was a pair I really liked, A good pair of ray bans that were dropped on the driveway and broke the lens.

Normally a pair lasts me for a year or more (I had the last pair for a long time), I just have been having a streak of bad luck lately. I have to go pick up and install a new alternator in my car today :( Plus a new battery monday that cost 65 bucks...so I need something to cheer me up, and to keep me from going blind while driving.

So far Im seeing a few pair of Gargoyles that I like, and the spy optics look pretty cool too. Thanks for the help fellas.

I second the Gargoyles! I have 2 pair of G-Force Infernos that I got a BJ's Wholesale for less than $50 a pair and one pair is polarized. Great glasses.

I prefer Ray Bans myself. My last pair lasted me probably eight years before I knocked them off a high shelf onto a concrete floor and broke the frame. Check Costco for some excellent deals on sunglasses-- they were probably 40% cheaper than any other place I checked when I bought my latest pair of shades.

Oakley above all else.

Serengeti for driving.

Rudy Project for sports because they have great lens replacement policies. But the way they are designed makes them feel weird on the face. It tries to form fit and mold but does a poor job IMO unless your face is exactly the right size.

Does anybody make them ansi certified for murdersicle riding, and working around grinders? I'm thinking about finding a pair that could double as some garage glasses (not ever sure if i trust the 3 dollar safety glasses... just something about it that bugs me? )

Thanks guys

(sorry for stealin your thread)

Big head? Oakley X-Metal XX
Small head? Oakley X-Metal Juliet

I've had a pair of XXs for almost 2 years now. Seems like they'll last a lifetime.

I disagree. None of the Oakleys fit my fat head. My Rudy glasses fit me perfectly.

Hey Hot Rod
Try a welding supply store. Safte glasses shaded for use with cutting torches. Lenses come in various "shades" ( darknesses), with side protectors. They aint Gargoyls, but the sure work. I think they are asni cert. too for use in grinding.

Nearly all the Oakleys are ANSI certified for impact resistance. I got a pair of the Oakley C-wires back in June and they rock! The optics are always tack sharp. However, carefully consider the color of the lenses. I originally bought the smoke tint and they were too dark and there's just something about dark grey color lenses that seems to make everything fade together when looking through them. I took them back and got the C-wires with the gold iridium lenses and they are superb- the brownish tint really improves image contrast and they allow a little more light transmission for driving in more diverse conditions.

Wow those are nice!!!

I've thought about the welding supply, just haven't acted on it! (is that a lame answer or what!!)

Anyone have a good source for Oakley's? (read cheap!)

Thanks for the quick replies and the thumbs up on the thread heist...

If your eyes get stressed spend the extra bucks and go Maui Jims. The polarized lens cuts the glare, especially if you're going to be around water.

You will almost never find Oakley's on sale. It happens but VERY rare. Even when Foot Locker has their big sales, they specifically exclude Oakleys.
