Hey guys;
I Have been banging my head against the wall trying to find a good supplier for nickle silver bar stock. The knife supply places all carry up to 1/4" stuff, But I can't be constrained by these petty limmitations. I need BIG STUFF. I found large sheet at Sheffield, but woaaaa it's $$$$$. Anyone getting this stuff at the source?
Thanks in advance. I know you all will come through here!
Adam.

http://www.onlinemetals.com has nickel silver - but only 1/4".

http://www.avins.com/ was once listed as a source - could give them a call.

Sheffield's is the only place I've seen it at that thickness. They had some at the Blade Show (2003) at around $20 for a 3/8" x 1 1/4" x 12" piece. Could kick myself for not having bought right it then and there. Same piece the next year was double that.

it was nice to meet you at the Blade Show! On this nickel business. If your looking at some of the really old examples out there (the 19th cen. stuff), remember that much of that was cast then finished out. Now that's what I do for a living (manufacturing jeweler...) and I can get really nice nickel silver casting grain for maybe 4.00 an ounce?? (can't remember) but the problem is casting the damn stuff. It really need a lot of heat and it can get pickey; porosity is a problem much of the time. I even tried sand casting some of it with poor results. There's places I use in NY that will cast for you in quantities of say six pieces or so. They send you a nice clean casting to work with. I'll look'em up if you like. What exactly are you up to here?? Have a pattern in mind?
