I would love to get Maxpedition's Blackbear Laptop case, but it won't fit the Dell 9300 17" widescreen laptop I just ordered. Anyone know of any good laptop cases(or backpacks) that are made to the same standard as Maxpedition?

I'd like to replace the backpack I currently carry everywhere that has my 12" old laptop, lunch, book, nalgene PSK, and various odds and ends. Kind of a Laptop case + a Fatboy. I'd really appreciate any help.

I don't know whether they sell Crumpler bags in the US but i have one of their laptop backpacks and the quality is superb. Good fabric and design. Crurently i have the Crumpler Base Toucher which holds up to 15 inch laptops. I think the bigger one is called the Crumpler Team Player for 17inch laptops.

Thanks for the links, guys. I think I might stay with a backpack form factor, and get a laptop insert to carry inside my backpack. Still evaluating my options though. Thanks again!

Timbuk2 makes some great products as well. I've been very impressed with everything I've seen from them. I work in a bike shop and have seen quite a bit in the way of messenger bags. Timbuk2's workmanship/materials are top notch.

This isn't "tactical" but if you simply used that word in place of "extremely durable" then this would fit the bill.

I've carried this case around the world for the last year and two days, it has never had a single moment of rest and look almost as good today as it did 5/17 of last year.

Fuzion Z is far more durable than one would think looking at it in a store. Fits my 17" widescreen and has carried a load of 18lbs daily without problems. The included shoulderstrap sucks beyond words but an ultimate padded shoulder strap from Eagle Creek fixed that problem.

I live out of this case and it has truly met all my needs, personally I didn't think it would last six months, but now I'm going on year two and expect it to last until next May.

I've had a spire backback for a while now and it worked great. Made in colorado great contruction etc. I looked at almost all the othe rbags metioned here before chooseing this one. my second runner up was one made by Booq and last but not least was the crumpler. In the end I just couldn't see my self wearing a crumpler and it seemed difficault to pull the laptop in and out...which I do often.
And the booq seemed to wide for my liking but that's a style thing really.

Here's some reviews I read:

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice everyone...but I succombed to the evil of the impulse buy and bought a Targus XL backpack at Best Buy. It had decent reviews, I can cover up the embroidered Targus name easily so the backpack won't scream "steal me", and I think it will meet my edc needs for right now.

A little later on, when this bag is starting to wear and I (hopefully) have a larger budget, I will revisit this thread and buy the computer a nicer bag. For now though, I'm pretty happy.

Oh, and btw, the Dell Inspiron 9300 is a great laptop. I'm having a blast with it. www.notebookforums.com is a reccomended site.
