Need tips on sharpening a D2E Sifu

Well, I've got a REKAT Sifu, CF with stonewashed D2 blade on the way, should have it thursday.

I'm about as novice as you can get when it comes to sharpening blades, and I see the D2 can be more difficult to sharpen than other metals... I don't want to bugger up my new Sifu!

So, can someone tell me the best way to take care of this knife, what tools/techniques I should be using? I'm willing to go buy the right equipment, as I need a good sharpening setup anyway.

Also, can someone tell me what the angle of the factory edge is on this knife?

Regards,

Welcome to the forums, BrianF-Jax! Nice to see a new person whose already made a good choice of a knife to buy.

The recurve in the SIFU blade can make sharpening tough. Probably the most frequently suggested sharpening system for anything, but especially recurved edges is the Spyderco Sharpmaker 204. Best price I've seen on that is at Bayou LaFourche. The company has good knife prices too, excellent service, and they quickly ship orders. The set will cost a bit over $40.

There is a super expensive, but allegedly almost magical sharpening sytem out there, but my porous memory won't drudge up the name at this point. Another system is RazorEdge, or something like that.

D2 is reckoned to be a difficult steel to sharpen by many, but not impossible. I think you would do well to keep on top of it, and not let it get extremely dull before sharpening it. Then again, D2 holds an edge quite well, so there may not be an immediate need to get a sharpener.

Spyderco is going to add diamond sleeves for the ceramic rods, but probably not until the first of the year. I've been trying to put off buying a 204 until those were included. Don't think I'm going to make it. Will have to add them later, I guess.

ENjoy your SIFU, and hope we see you around a good while.
