Need to choose

Ok, I FINALLY have the money to buy a new, functional sword. Why functional, you ask? There aren't any swordfights anymore! you say. It's because I have a policy, of not buying decorative weaponry. So, i need some help choosing from the following:

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumreplicas/detail.aspx?ID=621 Cheapest of the group, but Windlass has a not-so-good rep of tempering their blades badly.

http://www.mwart.com/xq/ASP.product/pid.1208/qx/ranger-sword.htm Slightly more expensive, but if the reviews are to be believed, well worth the money.

http://www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=R-001 Most expensive. Also made by Generation 2, same as the other 'Ranger' sword.

Well, what do you fellows think?

I wouldn't choose any of the above. Consider instead:
www.angustrimdirect.com
www.albion-swords.com
www.armor.com
The three above are good examples of fit, finish, and accurate dimensions, handling, and "feel" of the blade for production (and semi-custom) swordmakers.
Good luck choosing now :D.
Do also check into Swordforum.com and Netsword.com (IIRC) and search for discussions of sword safety, handling, and storage as well as other recommendations on brands, particular swords (reviews), and such. You may even end up in discussions with swordmakers like Michael Pearce and Gus Trim.

Seconded. I'd suggest:

1) Saving more money
2) Looking at the companies noted above.

Failing that at least take a look at www.kriscutlery.com

It's hard waiting on that first sword... but if you end up being unhappy with it then you are going to have to buy another anyway.

I've been to them all, and am a member on both forums. I'm buying these cheapies because I want something I can just screw around with, but will survive. I will purchase an ATrim blade, someday, but not in the near future.

Several years ago, I bought the 'Lord of Milan' sword from www.armor.com though I don't see that model listed in their current inventory. The sword itself is excellent, but the scabbard leaves a lot to be desired.

Does anyone know if the Angus Trim swords are U.S.A. made? The site doesn't say so anywhere.

They are. Mr. Trim makes them by hand, to the best of my knowledge, in the US of A.

Son of a gun! I didn't realize that they had dropped it from the catalog! If you ever decide to unload yours please let me know, it's an excellent sword one of their "sleepers" in my opinion.

For the moment Angus Trim swords are made in the United States, although it is my understanding that he has sold a couple of blade designs and Christian Fletcher has provided cross and pommel as well as scabbard designs to a company that will be outsourcing to some outfit in China. I expect that Angus Trim swords will still be available for the forseeable future but that there will soon be a lot of chinese made Angus Trim look alikes about so be sure of what you are ordering.

You might also want to look into Lutel, a Czech company that makes Hell for solid replicas that come with nice scabbards and belts for the money.

Just sent you an email, hope it goes through.

Well, I ordered the second sword in the list, the first 'Ranger', yesterday. It should be here by the weekend. Pictures will follow when the rain lets up.
