need to find a huge but streamlined folder

Having trouble finding a folder with the specs I want. Basically I’m looking for something huge but slick. Like a Camillus Mad Maxx 7.0. At least a 7” blade. Preferably 8-9” if possible with a spear / tanto stabbing point. Unfortunately you can’t buy the Camillus and I’m not ready to wait 1-2 years for a used one to pop up for sale. I was looking for something I can buy right away. I’ve seen the Opinel 13, it’s a nice size but it just looks like a bulky butter knife. The handle is way to bulky and it’s more of a slicing blade over a stabbing blade. I know the Cold Steel Esapada XL but it’s too curvy and ridiculous looking and expensive for AUS8. Any other options? My budget would be around $500

that does look nice no doubt. But blade is too small. It's not about practicality. I want something crazy and that's not crazy enough. That's why my MIN balde length would have to be 7". Thanks for the link

You might want to consider contacting Darrel and see what he can do for you.

i wouldnt count out the extra large espada so quickly.

you say you want a big shock value, its kinda hard to beat the massive, deadly looking, way over the top extra large espada.

aus 8 too expensive? as far as i know, their isnt a knife, custom or production, that compares in size and price, and with the tri ad lock, isnt one that beats lock strengh. you say its not about practicality, so why does blade steel matter?

now, if you just dont like, then you dont like it, but if shock and awe are what youre after, youd be hard pressed to beat it. and youd come in way under your budget.

Look at the XL Espada or the XXL Voyager and you will save a ton of money for some seriously large folders with stellar reputations. keepem sharp

9" blade in a folder? So you are OK with a folded knife that is 10" long, how will you carry it?

Do a Google search for 18" switchblades and you will see some in the lengths that you want. Most are going to be Italian stilettos, but there are a couple of modernized designs.

He'll have to make sure his torso and head are clear when he fires one of those!

those look great. thanks. Just need to find one that's not automatic as they are illegal where i live.

what about a Cold Steel Ti-Lite, get the 6" one, shorter than what you want but big enough for a folder IMO...

played around with one in store. Was too small for what i wanted. I have enough "regular" folders. That's not the issue. I want something closer to a folding short sword than a piddly pocket knife. I really like the 7" Camillus. Of course they don't make it anymore, go figure.

ok guys, i just picked up an Espada XL from your suggestions. I hope the blade doesnt snap in half if i try to stab it through something. Don't know much about the steels but everyone here seems to think AUS8 sucks so i guess we'll see. What i do like about it is the handle length. You can really hold it back and get some crazy reach with it

Properly heat treated AUS-8A is excellent steel. It's quite tough too. Cold Steel does AUS-8A very well. Unless you have a lot of experience using different kinds of steels, I doubt you can tell it apart from other steels.

Darrel also made a 9" MADD MAXX, but they go for $1250 and up. The 7" MADD MAXX's go for about $700 when they show up on eBay.

From owning not only an AUS-8 American Lawman but a Boker Action 2 as well, AUS8 is a very nice steel. Many on here get caught up in the "latest greatest" game.

that's great news on the AUS8 guys. I'm not looking for Busse level durability but i don't want some crappy dollar store steel that shatters like glass. Looking up on it a bit more it seems like a sturdy enough / get the job done type of stainless. I'm not going to be chopping at cinder blocks with it but it would be pretty embarrassing if i can't tell people that a $400 knife can't cut a few things here and there. I actually saw a CS vide on this knife just now and the guys slices up some tatami mats with it, which I might try for fun. Nothing like cutting tatami with a pocket folder lol. They do use the knife as well to pierce some car hoods and an oil barrel and it didn’t bend or bread. Very impressive.
