Need to get a better sheath for CUDA Talon

Hi all. I've recently taken receipt of a CUDA Talon (many thanks to the folks at 1SKS). As what I expected from reading all the threads in the past, the sheath being provided is not retaining the knife very well. I have worked a stop-gap measure by molding the sheath a little tighter, but I'm looking for a better solution.

I know from the past threads as well that some people do make a good kydex sheath for it. But I don't want to be sending my knife for more frequent flyer points. So is it possible to get a ready made one that would only need a little bit of modification to get it to fit perfectly? Would this sheath still be able to use the Tek-Lok?

Or failing that, can anyone supply me with a good pattern/design that would hold the knife firmly? I have a sheet of kydex at home and some fairly basic skills at plastic forming from doing acrylic sheets.

BTW, I think the best measure of all would be to submit such a design to BladeTech and have them make a good sheath straight off the bat. Are they open for negotiation?

Thanks in advance to all.

I see you said you used the search feature, so I hope I'm not repeating info you found in your search. I believe there was a problem of loose fit with some of the very first talon sheaths. Newer sheaths are apparently identical, but with tighter fit. I understand that camillus will send a new one for free, without you having to return the knife. If you like the overall design of the sheath, this may be the way to go. Hope this helps.

Hugh, you said "newer sheaths". How much newer? How do I tell?

But actually, that's besides the point. If it's identical, then the retention is not really very confidence inspiring. I need something a little more positive in retention. I believe the specification is jump-grade.

I believe the only way to tell the difference is the loose fit of the old versus the tight fit of the new. I understand it does make a big difference in retention.
However, if by jump-grade you mean double securing systems, then you will probably have to go the custom route. There are some faqs on making your own kydex sheath. Also, there are some sheath makers that many forum members have had some good results with. You might want to try: onscene tactical or Mike Sastre at videoSAS@aol.com Hopefully one of them might have a talon in stock that they could go off of.
Hope this helps.

Hey Guys....

I've been in touch with Jeff (Steelwolf) and I'm in the process of helping him through e-mail to possibly rework the sheath to get a better fit...

More than likely there is nothing wrong with the original sheath, other than that it just needs to be adjusted slightly..

A loose fit is more times than not an easy thing to fix...

A tight sheath on the other hand can be a little more difficault to adjust,,depending on where it's tight.

Right on. BTW Eric, I took your advice and ordered the A-1 from Murray. It came with one of your sheaths. Both knife and sheath are tops!
