Alright so what better place to ask this question than the place where you spyderco guys all crawl around(pun intened).

I used to have quite a few Spyderco's but they've all been traded off or sold, probably to some of you! I really miss carrying some of them and would gladly put a few new pieces in rotation with my Sebezas ZT's and Bencmades.

Im seeking recommendations as I have been a bit unfamiliar with the lineup, I have very few parameters:

I like slimmer lighter knives, but that still have plenty of blade hidden in the handles, that keeps them thin (probably why I like sebenzas). Something small enough theres still room for an iphone6 in there without the two getting all close. (sorry manix, your out on this one).

I rather like carbon fiber and have been interested in the carbon fiber spyerdco uses for a while, it looks very clean to me.

I prefer a tip up carry and would like to use this as an opportunity for some steels i haven't tried out before (zdp, vg10, etc)

I rather like the looks of the wire clip on some spydercos too but this isn't a deal breaker.

Your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hmmm, you could always start fancy and go with the Knifeworks exclusive PM2 in CF with CPM-M4 steel. I'd imagine it ticks just about every box on your list. And it'd mean you could try the compression lock if you haven't already.

A new PM2 is on the list, I had one of the knife works CTS 204p but ended up selling it. Im not crazy about the green scales, love the blade and the compression lock though...and cpm-m4 is one I've been wanting to get my hands on.

Smaller but the Chaparral has some of the qualities you're looking for. Also the revamped Gayle Bradley might fit the bill.

Try a military! The clip can be switched to tip up if you don't get used to the stock configuration.

The caly 3.5 with carbon fiber scales, zdp-189/420j2 blade is a neat knife. Long and thin with a wire clip. I owned one for a little while, just sold it to try other things. When I got it new the action was really gritty, but after a drop of militec it became one of the smoothest knives I ever felt. The 420j2 laminate is very soft so it scratches easy, but at least it provides great rust/corrosion protection. Also check out the Stretch, I believe it comes in carbon fiber and zdp combos but I'm not 100% sure.

Sounds like the Carbon fiber Caly 3.5 with the zdp 189 layered blade is perfect for you. Good call by jamal_spelling91.

Yea, I kinda knew what I was describing lol...I'm having trouble getting past a lockback though...wanted to see if yall knew of any other similar offerings

I hole heartedly agree with others. You've just described the Caly 3.5 w/carbon fiber scales and ZDP. My edc for the past few years. How do they get so much blade in a compact, thin, disappear in the pocket, w/wire clip knife? I touched mine up today.....razor sharp,

Give lockbacks a shot...Spyderco executes their lockbacks very well as far as fit and finish are concerned. And if you want light weight handle material that is also VERY strong and won't scratch up the phone in your pocket, you really need to go with FRN. My first Spyderco was an FRN Native with a one piece FRN handle and it had the misfortune of getting nudged out of my tool pouch 275 feet up a cell tower and fell that far directly onto gravel (Closed fortunately). I found the knife half open lying on the gravel and thought for sure it would be a write off, but to my pleasant surprise it worked just fine (And still does almost a decade later) and if I handed you the knife and asked you to point out the fall mark left on the handle from the gravel you probably wouldn't be able to find it because it's such a small mark. FRN is some VERY tough stuff, and also lightweight, and also won't scratch your phone if they do happen to do some pocket nudging lol. As for your choice...Based on your criteria I'm going to go out on a limb and say that for slimness and also lots of blade length you should try to find an OD Goddard sprint run, and if that doesn't work I'd recommend a Stretch.

My OD (Olive Drab) Goddard which has a one piece handle (Thinner than more complex construction and is very thin, especially for its size) and has VG-10 steel.

My Stretch. This is the sprint run in Aogami SuperBlue steel (Very high end Japanese carbon steel) which is laminated with 420J1 stainless steel and also has an FRN handle, though unlike the Goddard it has steel nested steel liners and isn't one piece construction which makes it slightly thicker, but it is still a slim and easy carrying knife.

And finally the Native to demonstrate the toughness of FRN...I'll also include a picture from roughly the same height, but it is a different job site from the one the knife fell at...didn't have a camera phone that long ago lol.

The Michael Walker sprint might be an option if you can still find one. The one thing that you might not like is the clip. It rides rather high.

Thin you say? Needs to ride next to the Iphone, you say?

I'm gonna recommend either the Gayle Bradley or a Double Bevel. The DB has G10 not CF though. But its a thin knife with a thin blade, and made from VG-10. Its a good one and doesn't get much love around here.

Take a look at the Sage series. Sage 2 is my favorite but if you like CF take a look at the Sage 1 and 3.

The Chaparral was going to be my recommendation as well. Fits most if the parameters he listed. It's a super thin blade and is very elegant looking with CF.

Chaparral, Caly 3, Sage 1,2,or 3, Caly 3.5, or Stretch, depending on how much blade you want. I know a lot of folks love the PM2, but I just don't picture it being any less bulky in the pocket than the Manix.
