I have owned this Hide A Way knife for 5 years and I would like to find someone in Canada who
could re grind the blade ( hollow grind ) . The edge thickness ( red arrow ) is over 1/8th" and even when sharp, the cutting ability is terrible. Material is S30v and heat treating was done by Paul Bos.

I would prefer to keep this in Canada due to border hassles etc.

All comments and suggestions welcome.

its really easy to do on belt sander or a stone....best to convex it ......its really easy to maintain after you reprofile it!

I'd definitely second just convexing it with a belt. It's fast, simple, and the edge will last a long time, especially in S30V.

Thank you both for suggestions. I have never used my belt sander to do a major metal removal job......but there has to be a first time for everything. I made up a jig to hold blade at the correct angle. Difficult to see much change in the second photo but the edge is now much thinner and cuts like crazy

Excellent, glad to hear you were successful! Working with the belt is really quite simple, isn't it?

About all you have to do is just keep an eye on the temperature. If you can't hold the edge in your bare fingers IMMEDIATELY as it comes off the belt, it's time to dip it to pull off some heat. Every couple strokes and a dip, and you can put an extremely good edge on a SHOVEL if you need to.

Well, and remember, most steel doesn't start to be effected temper wise until about 400F. You can't hold onto something much above 130F, so if you can still hold onto the blade near the edge, there's not a danger. You really have to lean on it to start building heat in most cases, unless you've got an amazingly fine tip. Some of the Kershaw onion series you've really got to watch it on, that tip is hair-fine and really thin.

Good looking cord-wrap on the grip, by the way.
