My HR. On top of a really bad day, I ended up dropping my HR, and a small bit of the tip broke off. Now I'm having trouble getting her back to factory sharpness. Using diamond steel. Also have some Ark. stones.

Want to get this good and sharp. Not much use for a dull knife.

I re-did the tip on a used becker extreme I traded for using my EdgePro. I went through the gamit of stones and it is like it never happened. I never really mastered the free hand method, but it seems like is should still be the same. Start out course and work you way down to a 1000 grit water stone if you have one.

He's right, just keep working at it--your method is probably fine, it just takes time, as you're removing hardened steel. :)

Cool, thanks for the help, guys.

btw, thinking of getting a sharpmarker for my rat, and other knives. What do you think? Good investment?

EdgePro. you can inves in the APEX version for around 125.00 and more than likely be set for life. Or you can go all out and get the Professional version. I did. I will never own another.

A good trick is to go over the edge with a magic marker. Then you can easily see where you're removing material, and adjust your stroke accordingly.
I recently posted about making a sharpening block using mouse pad foam with clips to hold strips of abrasive paper - to sharpen convex edges like the Swamp Rats. Look here and on the Himalayan Imports forum.
