Hey guys! Been gone for a minute growing the company and doing reviews for youtube. (won't post links mods
) though I will post write ups soon as promised! Need your help making something awesome!
Have been making several custom fighters with limited utility capability, but it is time for us to make something special! Well my own custom knife making ability is from a scale of 1-10 a 5 at best. I have an awesome team of guys with tons of military experience but we have made customs before from our designs then gone through other knife makers for production. But we want to do something different.
So what do I need from you guys? Well I am not sure if this has been done, or if it is allowed on the forum, but I would like your input on a knife and we will make it. Why? Because this knife will have a limited run and will be high quality with mid range cost. In other words it will be for guys like you, not for the "bear grylls" gerber crowd. Lol. I am just gonna need details like blade material, edge type, handle type, length, width, general blade type etc. What do you wanna see in such a blade?
My thoughts: I don't consider a combat knife and a fighter the same things. I also don't consider a utility knife and a survival knife the same thing. I see those terms used interchangeably too much in my mind? Dunno if you agree with me, but those are just my thoughts. I would prefer to use a steel that can take a beating but with good edge retention. S30V or so on, but again I understand I am not the most knowledgeable guy in the world with steel and construction so I would like to see what you all have to say might be best for the uses I intend.
Parameters: A light weight, mid sized fighter with some utility capability. It has to be a devastating cutter and stabbing capability needs to be there as well without compromising blade integrity. I don't want this baby needing to be used in a life threatening situation and then snapping the tip off. Full tang, of course, this is not negotiable. At the same time it needs to be able to cut through cardboard, rope, leather and fabrics no problem.
Serrations or no? What kind of serrations if any? On the edge or the spine? Handle materials etc. Everything and anything! Design details etc! Any custom knife makers who give input we use will receive credit for it/exposure. Not gonna lie it will not be "John Smith from 'smith works' designed this knife" it will be more like "Our signature blade! (insert company name) is proud to present! Special thanks to (insert manufacturer's name) for making this for us! Also, thanks John smith for the input in design." Just to be clear.
Not gonna make you a million bucks more than likely. But if you want to be a small part of this amazing project we would LOVE to hear from you guys.
PLEASE: no insults to each other or a pissing contest, let's be respectful to each other's ideas. Simply let us know what your thoughts are and email us little drawing on a napkin for all I care. This is LITERALLY my job for the next month so I really don't have anything better to do but listen to you guys. Hopefully this will lead to the kind of knife so many of you have been clamoring for and if we have a little fun while doing it... great!
Thanks everyone
