Need/Want a "Truck Knife"

I've been thinking, I'd like to have a "truck knife." Something I could keep in the door pocket of my truck to have in case I need a little bigger knife than my smallish folder. Any ideas? This thing might be ridden hard, so no safe queen type knives.

I was thinking about a full size soddie, but I wondered about other options.

Thanks y'all!

Never mind. ;)

Oh goodness man. How did you come up with that man smart aleck pictures in such a short time?? Haha. :)

Good Stuff.

I'd say you might want a buck 110 or a buck 119. Queen makes some nice fixed blades as well.

Whoops, site hiccup --> double post.

It would be grand if I had an actual good idea to put here, but I shall now exit, stage right.

I'll watch to see what others suggest, however.

If you are thinking "fixed blade", you might consider a Mora. Pretty basic knife, but well made and can be had in stainless for about $15.

For a folding knife, a Buck 301 or Buck 110 would do you well.

I gotta go with Frank on that. I keep a old mora number 1 in the glove box of my pickup. It's tough, cuts well, and can take some abuse.

Carl.

Oh yeah, Mora's are great. I actually keep a SOG Seal Pup in my jocky box. In my tool box I have a machete.

I keep one of these in each of our vehicles: Victorinox Rescue Tool. Nice big main blade. Plus, the glass breaker, saw, and belt cutter could be useful in an emergency.

Here is a picture of one of them:

I'm liking the Mora #1 idea. Cheap, easily sharpened, and tough as nails.

I like the Vic rescue, but it just seems gimmicky. I'm very suspicious of "all-in-one" rescue type implements because usually they are designed by someone who thinks they know what a rescuer would want rather than what someone in the field needs. However, I may look at them more, just because they piqued my interest.

You would know far better than me what is needed in the field, but its design heritage at least partially comes from those actually doing the work: "The knife was developed as part of a 5 year project in cooperation with emergency medical and rescue service personnel."

But the Mora is far cheaper, and very durable.

Moras, Opinels, Svord peasant knives. They're all good 'truck' knives. They are inexpensive, hold an edge, can take a beating, and IF they were to break, they're easy to replace. If someone breaks into your vehicle and steals it, it won't ruin your day and break the bank.

Doug, what I need in the field is a heavy rescue company with their toys. :) Medics are just the pretty boy gods the firemen and police officers all look up to and wish they could be.
:D
Anyway..........

Honestly, an opinel and a sodbuster were at the top of my list, but I know nothing about the opis. I'd like to get a small one for my girl scout as a scout knife, and maybe a larger one would be appropriate for my truck knife?

I'll be sure to pass that along to my LEO and firemen buddies!

Seriously, my son loves his Opinel #8 and Mora 860. I think either one would serve the purpose.

But you see, Doug, they won't ever openly admit it. They are too afraid of showing open adoration, so they just worship from afar. :)

Seriously though, I have nothing but props for our local FD and PD. Great guys and we all look out for each other out here. Rules: I go home, my partner goes home, my patient goes home. That order, every time we get off the truck.

I'm going to look at Opis more tomorrow.

Hi!

I personally would also tend to a Mora knife. Cheap and absolute heavy-duty. My fave at the Mora knives is the 711. Great knife!

Kind reagrds
Andi

I keep a Gerber Big Rock in my truck door. Beefier than a mora, but same price ballpark. I used to keep my BK 2 in the truck, but I'd be less pissed off if someone stole the Gerber.
