Here are the details: I gave him a Cryo I and he loves it and is now hooked. He would like something a bit larger, but would also like a better grade steel. Wants to keep things in the $50 to $70 range. Any ideas? I was thinking a Griptilian, but they run a bit more than he wants to spend. I appreciate the help. I would like to get him something nice, as he deals with a severe hip problem and is in pain quite a bit. He grew up around a farm and I just restored a Buck 110 for him, that was handed down to him from grandpa, to dad, to him. He is saving for an engagement ring, thus why the knife budget is on the low side. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I love my RAT 1, its bigger than the Cryo, durable as heck and the blade holds a great edge. I carried mine daily for over a year at work, where I use it 20-40 times a day and I've never needed to do any more than touch it up with an 800 grit cermic rod to keep it shaving sharp. You could get a couple of them with his budget.

The Buck Vantage Pro has S30V steel. If he went a little higher he could get a Kershaw Blur with S30V. Good Luck! Kevin

I agree, rat 1 or 2 depending on what size he wants.

First two to pop in my head....

Spyderco Endura FFG VG-10 steel and can be found in your budget
Buck Vantage Pro 347 S30v Made in USA just under $70

Maybe something from kershawguy.com?

He carries a lot of blem models for great prices.

The Blur would be a good choice. Standard model has 14C28N steel and can be had for $50 (possibly less). The S30V version runs around $70. There is also a limited-run plain-edge tanto version that runs a bit under $70. The Skyline is a little bit larger than the Cryo and can be found for under $50. It also features the 14C28N steel for the standard models.

A couple of mentioned the RAT-1 and RAT-2, so here's the Cryo next to those:

The Rat 1 or 2 is a good choice depending on his size preferences. The new Kershaw/Emersons are decent too. I just got the CQC6-K and it's been a pretty good work knife so far. Looks good too.

Bolt, come on man, we've all been there and you're amongst friends here. The first step is admitting the problem. Oh wait, is this to an attempt to hide the addiction from your significant other. Sorry, my bad! I'm sure your "friend" would be quite happy with any of the above suggestions. ;);)
All jokes aside though, I'm interested in trying the RAT II sometime also. I've heard a lot of good things about it. The Delica is another one I own and really like (but don't carry too often).

NaturalMystic, my wife is VERY aware of my Knife Addiction. Thank you all for the great suggestions so far. I will take my Blur and Rat 1 to work with me and see what he thinks. I also have a new Avispa in route so hopefully that gets here soon and I can show him that too. I didn't even think of KershawGuy. I will check out his blems, as I have a great Blur I got from him.

RAT 1 and RAT 2, Ka-Bar Dozier folder, Byrd Meadowlark. You can get any two for $50 or 3 out of 4 for $70. That is a good start on a good collection of excellent value knives. Money well spent.
