I am thinking Medford Raptor, Spartan Enyo, CRK Professional Soldier etc. I would love to hear all recommendations and see a lot of pics. Thanks. let's put a $200 limit on it.

Easy man....Alan Folts Minimalist, but a custom version.

Run about $150-$160.

Alan offers a variety of grinds and handle finishes. Top notch work....

What type of environment do you live in? Do you sweat a lot? These are things to consider with a neck knife. To me a folder can be pocket jewelry, but a neck knife is purely utilitarian. How well will that 180 dollar D2 hold up day to day, and is it worth it?

Light weight is essential in a neck knife, like with no other kind of knife, IMO.
Don't go for a big one, unless you have a few & know you will like heavy.
I find the Becker necker too heavy for neck carry.
Enzo necker is good, as are the BRKT neckers I have.

For me, the Todd Begg Tree Frog is the perfect neck knife for me. When I bought mine, it is your price range.

Can't remember exactly how much it was, but I got a CPM 10V neck knife off of a forum member here. It was around 125 I think, and it is awesome, easy to sharpen and holds a great edge!!

For me a neck knife needs to be small and lightweight enough to forget about, and just be a handy little blade for small quick cutting tasks.
Here's what I edc every single day

I don't think neck knives are good primary blades, as any fixed blade capable enough to be one is is almost always larger than I consider comfortable for neck carry. Are great quick access blades for small stuff.

Many Childress neckers available, a few different steels and nice handles, runs about $95-120.

Pics?

That Tod Begg looks nicely done.

Might help for some direction as neck knife class has become quite popular and varied. Fixed or folder? Higher end custom like or just a regular, good neck knife? A lot of custom level neck knives sitting in the $200 range.

Neck knife is usually a fixed blade, if a folder it's usually carried in a kydex/other material sheath handing from it, but most consider this kind of blade a fixed only.

In any case, I'd recommend trying different models ($200 is much cash for one of these), great examples being the CRKT Minimalist series, CRKT Obake or Civet, the Spyderco ARK, the Real Steel neck knives, Cold Steel Spike series and Kiridashi or Super Edge, KaBar Piggyback, and Last Ditch TDI, the Becker and ESEE D'Eskabar and Izula and the SOG SNARL

You can buy all of them for your stated budget, actually (10 of them at least). If you don't like them, they are usually easily sold or make great gifts, and then you know what you like/dislike on a neck knife, try different steels/grinds/weights/lengths/blade shapes and take a bite at every big manufacturer's offerings in this category.

Then have a custom made with all the features you like, or choose from those production models you've tried.

Sounds crazy, but it's what I'd do.

WMMV of course!

Yeeeaaa! You Got neck knife thread!
Good call Hokie_Fan.

+1 Alan Folts Custom Minimalist. I own both the 'Real' ones and one made by CRKT collaboration - the latter simply doesn't hold up in edge durability/retention compared to Alan Folts's cpm-154. Alan's blades are far superior in all the right categories, and after using my CRKT version off and on over a year I've felt for a long time it's basically a beefy razor blade whereas Alan's customs are KNIVES. The edge on the CRKT is too thin/too severe an angle for the steel used IMHO...perhaps one could fix this by establishing a new edge but I'd still feel like I was using two razor blades smashed together. You'll also notice in the pics that Alan Folts makes them the proper size, and for some reason(saving steel?) CRKT went ahead and made the handles too tiny. Scales now slide on the CRKT version even after retightening. There's a reason they cost $20, folks. Just so happens Folts's neck knife probably has the best use/feel of a lanyard ever seen on a knife of this size. Your pinky wraps around the lanyard turning the three finger handle into a four finger secure grip. Some of the three finger neck knives I have coming in the mail from various makers have mimicked his handle design and lanyard use.

wow this looked so much better on my phone...sorry for the awful pic.

Todd Wielinksi's True Saber is a very nice neck knife as well(along with the other customs) and even a hair thinner overall compared to the Minimalist, making it super streamline in the kydex sheath. This would be my other recommendation if you wanted a little bit more 'Knife'. Mine is W2, but there are a bunch that showed up over at dlttrading.com in the past month in 20CV. Feels very nice in hand, and great design concept for nesting the thumb on the spine. For reference, I prefer a 4.25" handle and the True Saber offers more than enough purchase. I often forget it's hanging from my neck.

The kirinite handled knife pictured was just scored from g-knives(thank you sir!) here at the forums and it wasn't setup as a neck knife, but it's super lightweight with its tapered tang and streamline custom leather sheath so I'm gonna change that with a quick paracord bend & wrap! :D

If you want an Alan Folts Minimalist, you have one option if you don't want to wait: Head over to gpknives.com where they have a variety on stock right now. They sometimes show up over at Fort Henry, but usually one at a time and they sell immediately.

There are a lot of steel handled neck knives out there, but I don't own any because I like using mine in the cold with no gloves. Certainly not a concern in the current weather.

Neck knives rock!

I will get the link, at work right now, and can't get pictures to work on here right now for some reason. If you search on here, "darrin sanders 10v" you should see it, it was the 10th post down for me. Anyway, I got that CPM 10V neck knife on here for $95. Great price for what I got! Stays sharp forever, easy to sharpen, and gets crazy sharp!
