Hello STR!

In light of your observations and testing about the nature of locks on folders and how various manufacturers do them, what do you think about this one; a Blackhawk Crucible (second pic down)?

I ask because I'm sold on this folder, but not too cazy about liner locks. However it seems to me that the relief cut seems thinned just right? What do you think?

TIA

If I understand correctly about where its made its most likely a hardened stainless steel lock and liner in this Crucible folder. Since the liners are approximately .060 thickness they are certainly strong if they are stainless steel. It also appears that based on the position of the lock relief that it is a short lock which in my testing proved quite formidable to defeat by flex and wrist movement on shorter knives. In fact some of the smaller gents liner locks are the most reliable of all of them. These type wrist and flexing exercises are the same type movements that can easily defeat liner locks with longer locks and handles for more leverage that we read reports about all the time around here. It looks like they have a real nice pitch angle on the contact of the blade interface to me also.

If I am correct about the liner thickness and material or even close its a good strong lock in that one. Looks to be full liners too which is not a bad thing. It appears the lock relief takes it down to about .045 or less there in the thinnest point but its a bit of a stretch to guess from a pic what that is but if I was to venture a guess that what it looks like. Without seeing how wide the lock is there is really no way of knowing much more on the lock and for that matter the same goes for the knife as a whole. However if that lock is wide verses narrow its probably a stout little folder when locked up. .045 is the thickness of the titanium lock relief cuts on the SnG by Strider, the Zero Tolerance 301 and 302 by Kershaw/Kai and others in the tactical folder arena so its plenty strong and in stainless even more so.

Thanks a bunch STR!

The first time I held it sometime ago, I was struck by how tough the lock mechanism was---it took two hands to steady and close it! If its got your OK, then I'm really sold on it!
