I’ve got one aluminum and ebony 110

I’ve got one aluminum and black paperstone 110

I don’t believe I can get another of either. I haven’t been able to find one at least. I’d really like to have another ebony (thought I got lucky and snagged a “last” one, but it ended up being the black paperstone).

Which one would you carry, and which one would you put away? Why?

I’m wondering if it’s completely opinion and preference based, or if for some reason one should be tucked away while it wouldn’t matter if the other was heavily used or not. It’s not about increasing value, more preserving possible/potential rarity.

I don't know about the rarity...
But, if you truly aren't concerned with maintaining value, make the decision based on how the knives make you feel. Is there one you prefer aesthetically? Put it up to preserve its appearance. Is there one you would prefer to carry? Maybe a little lighter or heavier, in a way that appeals to you; or a difference in the grip or hand feel? Carry that one. If the answers to those questions are the same knife, you're no better off than before I posted... and the only real solution, then, is to buy another to use until you have some epiphany about those two.

I'd put both away. Did you get one of the web exclusives with ebony and S30V? That's one I would carry and use.
agreed. with BCCI pricing and the free 112........... hey wait, I haven't even done that yet:p

edit; no promo codes w/ BCCI, so back to procrastinating.o_O

My vote was for ebony because it better fits the classic 110.

I'm surprised that you haven't been able to find another one. I see the ebony 110 regularly at the local wally world.

I can’t figure out how to get the discount. I have tried but for whatever reason I don’t understand how to apply it, or sign up for it.

Aluminum lightweight frames. I have lots of brass framed 110’s :)

I'd use both, as the mood punched me.

Don't forget they are both covered by Buck's forever warranty, in the unlikely event something breaks.

Also Recall that Buck's SPA service refreshes the knives sent in for R&R to like new again, for under $7. or $8..
(An true bargain if you take the value of your time and the cost of materials, if you did the work yourself, into consideration.)

I had the same problem. I ended up having to call in my orders. I'm listed as a BCCI member and industry partner, but, when I put anything that qualifies in my cart it does give me the discount. Go figure:confused:

Buck has made literally millions of Ebony 110's and will continue to use that handle material. But paperstone no..To this day I wonder why Buck dropped the Ecolite. In the years to come the paperstone will be much harder to find..

Good point. I’ve used this many times, and am more than impressed each time. I don’t really worry about them breaking, as I don’t use them in ways that would cause a knife to break. A spa trip would bring almost any knife back from the edge of the abyss :D

I wonder how many aluminum frame variations there are out there? There’s got to be more than ebony and paperstone. I love the weight on them.

Didn't the BCCI have a couple aluminum take-apart 110 club knives with Desert Ironwood, Ram (or was it Elk?), and Lucite cover options a couple years ago?

That sounds cool. No I didn’t know about that. Only been a member for a couple years now ;)
I’d be afraid to put those back together with that softer aluminum, I’m a bit of an “overkill” kinda guy when it comes to screws and such :D:rolleyes::cool:

Just because it can be taken apart don't mean it has to be. :)
I believe they used Chicago Screws at least for the frame and pivot. Hence no chance of stripping the threads in the frame, since there ain't none.
Still, even if I had one, I doubt I'd take it apart ... might unscrew and change the covers if I had different materials (and the proper size Torx) though. :)

Yes sir, I do believe I could certainly get on board with that :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I wish I would have picked up a couple of each of these lightweight frames. They carry and use very well, punching well above their “weight” class, just like any other 110. But I think I’ll console myself with an Ebony/S30V version as previously suggested
