Ok, I got an Alpha Dorado a couple of months ago which comes in a leather sheath. I don't particularly like the sheath because it sits kind of high on my belt and jabs me in the side. I know I could have a different sheath made, but I was wondering about the possibility of mounting a pocket clip on the knife. I really like the pocket clip system because it's easier for me to access my knife, but, I'm not so sure about "modifying" a new knife and possibly/probably lowering the value of it.

So Guys/Gals feel free to chime in please! All input is welcome :D
 
ono, if its a user, I wouldn't worry about "lowering" the value. Its not that expensive of a knife regardless. Besides that maybe a pocketclip would make it more valuable to certain users. I find myself carrying knives with pocketclips more often that sheaths anyway. Its not a huge sheath either, but I did get one of Bucks nylon sheaths for mine, as I didnt like the ride of the leather. Just another option possibly. If its a user, and its yours afterall, make it how you want it!!!!!!!!! I hope I helped with some options! Good luck! If you do modify it, please post up some pics before and after!

Post- Thanks for your input, I got the dorado from a Bass Pro shop. It's one of the CPM 154 "Bos" models. Would that make any difference as far as modifying it? I'm leaning towards taking your advice and adding the clip. I love the knife and it would get carried more if not for the sheath. Thanks again!
 
If you do use and carry it, I would make it how you like. Especially if you will use (carry) it more. But then again, I am more of a user than collector. If it is already used, I wouldn't worry about collector value myself. (NIB 5 years from now it may have added value maybe)

I need to pick one of those up to use yet! Its a sweet knife!
 
I'll never own a knife that's NIB 5 years from now :D

I appreciate your feedback. Next question is: Would I be best served to have a machinists shop tap the holes for the clip? Also where's a good source for pocket clips? Thanks again!
 
May want to ask STR on the forum about doing the work for you. I'm sure others can do it for you but I've had him do this type of work for me in the past so can support him.

If you decide to do it yourself you can get clips from:

I would make it the way you want it to be so long as you're going to use it.

STR is the way to go! ;) Unless you have the tools and are handy with tiny screws, drill bits, and taps.
