Just wanted to show a sweet little find of a watch. I have had my GShock for the better part of 15 years and it has literally been all across America and the world at this point. It had been my go to watch for travel and the beach for as long as I can remember, that said I started noticing that there have been so many updates to rugged watches in this time that it was about time to get a new rugged watch for the next 15 years of travel. The databank feature on my watch which was handy pre-Motorola Star Tac era phone was awesome in 1998 but not so useful today. I was switching the alarm off of gshock last weekend when I started looking at the memobank and laughed at how high tech this once was when you could make a phone call in a real phone booth for a quarter.
So I wanted to mix things up with a little something different and decided on this Timex by accident after doing my usual geeky gear research. I had a special ebay deal and got it for a very good price and much less than the cost of a GShock. But I really wanted the watch because of its fun factor and looks. It's a beast of a watch at 48mm, indiglo light, waterproof to a depth of 200M and get this, it has a built in digital compass just like a Casio Pathfinder. I usually don'y go for things described as beasty but my normal EDC watch is a Seiko SKX007 which replaced a Citizen, Hamilton Khaki Chrono and a couple of mid end watches which I don't wear anymore post recession.
The Timex doesn't have all the other bells and whistles of a gshock but I don't mind as I haven't seen any maker come out with a digital compass/altimeter model which is really what I would be interested in.
I'll try to update this with real photos when it comes in. Some of the watchforum guys called it a Gshock killer and that of course is a bold statement and TBD. I guess I won't know for another 15 years though!
