I know I've posted a few of these type threads, but please excuse my indecisiveness. I get too excited and can never decide. I am in the process of buying 3 blades....1 hawk, 1 Kukri, and one combat knife. I want the best I can afford. I think I have the hawk (Benchmade, MMHW) and the Kukri narrowed down. Now on to the combat knife. These will most likely not see much use since they will be tucked away with my other SHTF stuff. I realize these are not for everyone, but if you could buy only one which would it be?

1-Chris Reeves Green Beret-$250-$300

Pro-CPM S30V, nostalgia, great sheath
Con-?

2- Benchmade Marc Lee Glory-$$300

Con-most expensive

3-TOPS Steel Eagle- $200

Pro- I like the looks best, only $200
Con- 1095 Carbon (I believe not as good as CPM S30V, don't know much about sheath

I know everyone here likes the Busses. I do too, but in my price range I haven't seen anthing like these. I have looked at the Darfur Dimona and the Grayman knives also, but not sure about either of them. Please give me any experiences with any of these or any comments you wish to share (please be nice:)).

I've had my eye on that benchmade for a long time now, but go with the reeves. I'm the same with indecisiveness, haha. So i feel your pain.

I'll start this off by saying that I am not a big Benchmade fan and therefore I suprised even myself in that my choice would be the Benchmade. I like the ergo's on it and the recurve is wicked. The Handle also looks great. To top it off a small percentage of the proceeds go to help our soldiers.

Second choice would be the CRK and third would be the T.O.P.S. but that is done purely on company reputation. I think 1095 is great for a big outdoors knife as it's easy to sharpen in the field with a pocket sharpener. Just keep it oiled every once in a while.

I'd go with the BM. Second would be the Chris Reeves, and never would be the TOPS!

My first choice would have been the CRK. I don't think I've ever handled a knife that had a handle contoured like the BM so I can't speak to the ergos on it.

TOPS = overpriced imo

Honestly, a RAT, sorry ESEE, blade would be my choice too.

Scrap yard knives is currently selling the Regulator, its a bowie style blade made of some of the best steel I have ever used at the very attractive price of $100

TOPS could be called over priced but they are a very high quality knife.

S30V in a large FB? no thanks.

Those Busse's kick but at what they do, but in a lot of situations they are prohibitively expensive. I recommend the RC-6, the price is great, the 1095 steel when oiled and wiped down will give you a lifetime of use. (Long live RAT Cutlery!)

Just go for an ESEE or a Becker.
The BM is too brittle, in hand too light, and actually not appealing; for me at least. While TOPS make good knives, they are indeed overpriced for 1095 carbon knives.
S30V on a large FB just blows. We saw that with the Strider also.

OK, I have been thinking about these. The test done on the CR Green Beret makes me rethink it. The reviews on the TOPS have been not-so-good and the BM, well I haven't seen anything on it. A lot of people suggest the ESEE, which has me thinking. I could get an ESEE5 or 6 and something else for the price of one of my top choices. I have been wanting to try the CRKT Razel SS7. Anyone own one?

Definitely get the CRK. If you are going to put it up it will surely appreciate in value more than the other two. If you are going to use it as a survival knife I think it will out perform the other two knives also. You just can't in wrong with this knife out me the three choices. Just my two cents worth.
