I recently aquired a knife in a raffle. I am not the advid knife collector. I was told the knife may be worth something. i do know it is called a Satin Jack TAC and was made in 2007 but that is about it. Any Info will be greatly appreciated.

I can be contacted via email at: nccrimefighter@yahoo.com

I will email pics as I do not know how to post them here as of yet.

Thanx in advance.

Assuming it's in good condition, I'd guess you could probably get around $300 for it if it's a base model (coated blade and standard handles), or more if it has a satin or double cut finish or something else that sets it off from the run of the mill models.

You can get an idea of the finish and handle type from the Wayback Machine here. They've gone up a bit since then. Email me a pic and I could probably tell you more.

Also, while yours may have been made in 2007, I believe they were only available as a regular offering from Busse in 2005.

The Knife is in mint condition and still in cardboard sleeve from manufacturer. As far as anything that sets it off I would be speculating as i am a not too familiar with knives. I did learn from Busse that the knife was orginally offered in 2007 for $587. I have pictures and would love to post or email them to get comments on the knife to see what exactly it is. One difference i see from others I have noticed on here is the handle is smooth and the holes are plugged on the handle. overall length is about 12"

When did you learn from Busse about the knife?

If you click on my name or JohntheTexican's name, the drop down menu will give you an option to email one of us. Send the pics and we can post them.

It sounds like a smooth bolt version of the SJT, but AFAIK, that was only made last year. Curious.

btw, it is a violation of BF rules to solicit a sale through this particular forum. If you pay to be a Gold member, then you can sell on the Busse For Sale Forum. Other than that, you can try eBay.

I think I'm missing the 2007 se version (g10 satin finish)

3 modes of satin jack tac:

combat grade (in this case desert tan, it comes in a variety of colors)

limited edition (satin finish, snakeskin handles, numbered)

special edition smooth bolt

and then some random fancy show versions:

LVC, just a few corrections on your post. The SJTAC LE has tigerhide handles. There was also a dc/snakeskin version released in a Ganza and possibly a show but it is not an LE. The satin/black paper flat ground SJTAC is not an SE, it is one from Knob Creek last year, I believe. You are thinking of the Sledge Hammer which is a much thicker version and has more of a bowie/clip point on the blade. :)

Quite a few variations of the SJTAC out there and they are all sweet knives.

Here's another I didn't see posted above, the CE (Competition Edition). It has a rough finish (i.e. you can see the grind marks) with a convex edge.

Any excuse to post a pic of one of my favorites!

The handles on yours is what sets it apart from a normal copy of that knife.

Your handles are split into three seperate sections. The section closest to the blade appears to be Micarta or G10, and the two sections closest to the pommel look to be made out of Mammoth tooth or wood (not sure which). Also, the handles are held on using Mosaic pins instead of tubing and are hand shaped.

The blade shows a Busse Custom Shop logo, which is correct for the handles on the knife. It is quite certain that the quoted cost of the knife as 597.00 is correct. The handles on your knife are much harder to assemble than standard Micarta or G10 handles.

You've got a very nice copy there. Enjoy it...

Best regards,

Les.

I am more curious as to what makes this one more expensive than most. What is unique about this one?

That's a really nice looking knife. You could sell it off if you wanted, but tbh, I'd hold onto it and give it to your future son as an heirloom :)

Yes. You have a VERY sweet custom shop SJTAC. Seriously nice score! I wouldn't sell it, either. I'd keep it.

As far as use, Busse makes their knives to be able to take serious abuse, even the custom shop jobs, so don't be afraid to use it.

If you decide you want to get a sheath for it, there are a number of good makers that can be found through this forum. Rainwalker Creations and Chuddy Bear are two I like. A knife like that deserves nice pants, and either of those makers can set you up right.

If you sell it, the money gained will soon be gone.
If you keep it, you and your heirs will have as fine an example of the best the knife industry has to offer as you will ever encounter.

The real issue is the future money you will spend if you get bitten by the INFI bug. It is highly infectous.
