Okay, so i have had a Needs Work for the last year or so. When i got mine, the package said it was 13C26 steel... now on the Kershaw website, it's listed as 14C28N. It is also still listed as 13c26 at several places online

The MSRP is also significantly higher than i paid for mine... anyone wanna clue me in to what this is about?

Below is the listing on the kershaw website

just wondering when this change happened, and why most of the sellers online still list 13c26

The change happened in early 2009. I have no idea why websites still list things wrong...it happens.

IIRC correctly Kershaw replaced all of its 13c26 with 14c28 in one fell swoop. It's still great stuff, and I don't really find it's noticeably different from 13c26 for most applications.

I've also seen a 420HC version of the Needs Work (model 1820HC) that sells for a couple bucks less than the Sandvik version. I have the 14C28N version, and it cuts really well. I haven't used the 13C26 or 420HC versions.

Here are Sandvik's pages on 13C26 and 14C28N. There's also post on another forum from a few years ago talking specifically about 14C28N. The short of it is that the 14C28N performs basically the same as 13C26, but it has better corrosion resistance.
