I just found another brick-and-mortar knife store, and I am still up in the air about it. The Place was called the Steel Source, and it had a bunch of swords and helmets (:barf:) in the window. I hemmed and hawed for a minute, and decided to just go in.

I first saw dragon and wizard figurines(not good) and ALOT of swords. Crap. But then I saw the glass cases. Magnum - meh. Winchester - meh. Cold Steel - meh. CRKT - hmmm. Kershaw - YES!

Thier prices were all over the place -- $75 for a full-sized cyclone(I paid $70 for a mini at Dick's) And $90 for a NEEDS WORK!! What's up with that! Was the store owner just trying to take advantage of uninformed knife buyers? Would uninformed knife buyers spend $90 for a knife? Were there four or five crack rocks in the box? I had it out for purchase until I asked if the sticker had the right price on it.

Of course, the clerk was just a clerk and didn't know nuthin bout nuthin, so that was the end of that.

I did, however, walk out of there with a nice new Groove. I think I like it more for the thick frame lock and the super-smooth pivot than for the uber-cool blade(which is, in my opinion, an excellent length and really useful blade shape with the recurve and what not.).

So I guess this was more of a rant about a lame store than the Needs Work(maybe this should go in GB&U:D), But as impressed as I was with the Needs Work, I just ordered one for $30.

:thumbup: Two thumbs-up to Kershaw and thier quality knives!

That's so funny you posted that. I saw where Glockman said he liked the Needs work; which was enough of a recommendation for me; so I went to Sears to get one and it was 60 bucks. Sooo....I'm going to New Graham in the morning and get one for 32!:)

It's funny YOU posted, because while I was out today(not looking at knives:mad:), I saw a T-shirt with the "I got a fevah!/more cowbell!" quote from Mr. Walken.:D

I went and bought that Needs work today, that things isn't a knife...it's a scalpel with a handle! I love everything about it but the tip down carry, got to figure out some way to change that. BTW-I've trained my 2 year old son to say "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more COWBELL! (Except he's say's fuhscription, because he's 2!)

It is a FOLDING scalpel! :D

Unless Kershaw has plans for a Fixed Needs Work! (that would be awesome!!!)

I lucked out, and scored one for $21.50 Shipped on Ebay. Someone bought it, and didn't like it, so they put it back up for sale. Awesome blade!

It would make a good fixed blade.
Perhaps skeletonized for a neck knife? Even though I don't carry one, I'de probably still buy one. :D

This knife has sooooo much potential.
Could you imagine it with a Ti frame lock and a CB blade??

I know how you feel. We have a knife shop here called Charlie's Knife
Shop and these idiots charge full retail for everything! I fell in love with
a Lahar but they wanted $99.99 not including tax! I ordered one off Ebay
for $57 total instead. I did get a Needs Work also at Academy and I can't
put this little guy down. What a great design!

I often EDC a Spyderco Native and have had to put it down since I got the Needs Work. This thing is so sharp that I'm kind of afraid of it. One slip closing it and I'll be scratching myself with a different finger. Just an awesome knife for the price (or independant of the price, for that matter!)

I agree...It's the sharpest knife that I own right out of the box, and it also has the quickest AO of all my Kershaws.
