new and sick of wasting all my steel. I have an oregan blade maker grinder with 1.5hp 3 phase motor and vfd.

1. What grit and type of belt do i start my bevel.
2. What grit and type of belt do i finish my bevel with before heat treat.
3. When I grind my bevel in a jig the bevel gets wider as i get to the end the blade. Even though i hold it steady and pull.
4. After heat treat, what grit and type of belt do i use on bevel.
5. The blade bounces as i pull it across the belt if I freehand grind.
6. What type, brand, and grit belts should I buy.

Yes, I read the noob threads. Still don't know anything.
Any help would be appreciated. I just got my knife steel in and feels like I'm going to crap with my bevels

1. 36, 50, 60 depending on what I am working on.
2. sometimes I go up to a 400, other times, such as with a kitchen knife, don't even start the bevel before heat treat.
3. can't help, don't us a jig.
4. after heat treat I typically use 220 AO then Trizact
5. Either cheap belts with poor joints or you don't have your elbows locked into y our body.
6. Ceramic and trizact for steel, zirconia and AO for handles.

Even though you have read the noob threads, I strongly suggest you use the search feature for subjects like "which belts" and "grinding bevels." There have been many discussions by makers who know far more than I do and you are only limited by what you do not take the time to read.

It would be best if you could get with an established knifemaker, watch them work and take some lessons. I think I could get someone started in the right direction in about an hour.

50 grit blaze, then I switch to a 300 gator and 160 gator. Heat treat and then go to 300 gator, 160, 120, exc I have gators up to 30 I think. Can't remember as I usaly stop around the 100 range and then hand sand start g at 220.

What grit trizact belt?

Once I started only grinding kitchen knives after HT I pretty much switched to doing all of my blades after HT with the exception of blades I plan on doing a hamon or something on. Just gotta make sure you keep fresh belts on and keep the blades cool.
