So a coworker tells me he has a knife that was his Dad's that looked to be in bad shape. I tell him to bring it to me and I'll see what I can do. He brings me an old Endura from the early 90's that was apparently used as a spackle stirrer and then left forgotten for years. It had some rust all over and felt like gravel when opening and closing.

It didn't turn out too bad. It is almost as smooth and sharp as new. It locks up nice and tight still. Just with a little character spots now.

That same Endura was my first Spyderco.

What happened to it.. not a clue.

Nice job op. Came it great.

Nice refurbishing! I guess I never paid to much attention to these older ones. Whats with the raised portion around the pivot on the clip side?

It was to strengthen the pivot area. The earliest FRN Spydercos didn't have it, but it didn't take too long for them to add the reinforcement.

Thanks Paul. I guess the FRN got stronger over the years to the point it didnt need it anymore.

I believed the raised portion is to make it more friendly to the hand. This design is the first for any knife with a clip. I have the Cold Steel version (made with Spyderco's permission) and the raised portion makes it very friendly to the hand. However that's just my twisted idea, never seen it from Spyderco, maybe someone from the company will chime in.
