This is a phenominal hunter! Mirror polished D2 (very thinly ground), tapered tang, solder-less 304 stainless guard, mosaic pins, and California Buckeye burl scales with black and red spacers. Here's a scan: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=194082&a=8702838&p=28258770
And here's one showing the tapered tang and spacers: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=194082&a=8702838&p=28258788
The really unbelievable thing about this is that this was totally unexpected. I saw this knife on Neil's site and expressed an interest in it. Neil told me that it was the only Loveless-style he'd done, and that he was thinking about adding this model to his line. That was it. It never went any further.
Today the UPS man delivers it to me, and when I contacted Neil he told me that he'd decided not to add this model to his line, and rather than have it collect dust in the safe...he gave it to me!!
I tell ya, folks--Neil's a helluva great guy, he does extraordinary work, this is a great place to hang out and meet people, and I'm a happy, happy knife loving fool.
It's all good!
Go to www.blackwoodknives.com and check out Neil's work. He's a perfectionist, and it shows.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Come to think of it, a nicer guy couldn't have given it to you---does that make sense?

Gorgeous knife, Paul and Neil!

I had a similar thing when Matt Lamey sent a fighter to me last year...totally unexpected. It is one of my favorites.....

Beautiful knife, Paul. Congratulations to both you and Neil. I'm not suprised to hear this 'cuz in the process of getting my miniHawksbill from Neil he turned out to be a heck of a good guy (not to mention fantastic work!).

Paul,
I'm glad the knife has a good home!

From time to time I wind up with some "experimental" knives. When a great customer and friend shows an iterest in one......... well, what the heck!!

Neil,

You are the man. The highlight of my summer was getting to spend some time in Lakeland.

Be in touch

Nicholas

Very nice knife.

Neil makes some fine blades and one heck of a great guy to boot.

Daggum Neil, what you put on them handles to make em so beautiful?

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!!!

Nicholas, Mel, Michael,
Thanks!
The handle is STABILIZED wood! 400 to 600 grit wet sand then buff with white compound. To KEEP it looking good I put a coat of Renaissance wax on it!!
I hope this Tech talk doesn't get this thread moved to the shop talk area
