I saw the thread about Bushcraft, and the ensuing metallugical discussion...

Has anyone used their Neil Roberts as a field knife? I love the design, it seems very comfortable in many grips, but I haven't taken it out.

How is the S30V in the woods? I am not overly sure about sharpening the recurve either?

I am thinking of pairing it with my large Sebbie... Thoughts?

i think it would make a great field knife. the recurve will assist in chopping if necessary. there was another thread about a guy who did some skinning with his warrior and loved the performance.

sharpening should be a non issue, ive never found there is much of a difference. same technique, just feels a little different as you move it over the stones once you hit the recurve.

and nothing wrong with s30v being outside, just dont store it wet and wipe of any blood or fluids that get on the blade. care for it like any other high end knife.

I have one that I carry alot. Great, rugged knife. A thick blade, but good edge geometry. No problem sharpening with a round Lanski rod or Spyderco Sharpmaker rod.

I love and use mine, it's one of the first knives I would grab for in a pinch!

I bought mine to use and love it. When I am out in the desert it is always on me or close by.

I too use a sharpmaker with no issues.

OK, makes me want to go out and use it!
Anyone chopped with it in winter?

I bought one with the intention of using it as a field/bushcraft knife, but I found it too big. The first choil in the handle was too large and I couldn't get a comfortable grip on it. The 5.5" GB might be a bit better if it would be available in plain-edge.

I had the GB (7"), but didn't like the top guard on the handle, I can't comfortably put my thumb on the blade with finger in choil. This one works for me.
I as a little concerned about the thickness, but the Sebbie will handle the finer stuff...;)
