Neo-Tribal Bowie by John Gonzalez, Dervish Knives

This is an early birthday present to myself. Next month, I turn 65. This is way better than Medicare eligibility! It’s an outstanding piece!

Hidden tang knife .. the fittings are cast bronze, done by the lost-wax method.. the wood is a (stabilized) spalted amboyna burl.. Specs:
9.5" blade, 14.5" OA
Diff. hardened 1095: HT by Michael Burch
antique finish with very subtle hamon
fileworked spine
cast bronze guard and pommel cap

Thanks, Spencer..

Yep! It's right up there with my SAR's: Hornet EDC, my Black is Night Recurve, your collaboration Custom SAR Custom knife with Eddie Killian(coming any day) and both the Hornet Combat XL Tanto and U-TU that are hidding somewhere in your shop, with my name on them... he, he, he... :D

John's work is truly inspiring. Great guy and even better knives.

Man, that's an awesome work of art right there. Happy B-Day whenever that is!

I like everything about it - the bold blade shape, the cool fittings and most of all, that wild and crazy wood. Congrats!

Roger

John's work is getting better and better - that one turned out great. I picked up a unique karambit from him a while back. He has a great for design, and the pieces he makes using natural materials, like this one, always seem to catch my eye.
