This pair was ordered up by a customer who had previously bought an 18" Wrecker tomahawk from me and has used it quite a bit. He wanted a matching 'hawk and knife with cord wrapped handles.

The 'hawk is the more "neo" of the pair, a 15" War Chief in 1/4" 4140, with the top and bottom rivet holes left exposed to allow for lanyard options. The knife is forged from 1/4" x 1 1/4" 80CrV2, with a 7" blade and a false edge on the clip. Both have hemp-over-leather handle wraps and black oxide finish on the steel. There is a leather slab on either side of the tang underneath the hemp to bulk up the handle. The edges on the leather were heavily beveled prior to wrapping to keep the corners of the handle from being too square. Three strand Turk's head knots in black round leather lace cover the ends of the wrap, and the whole wrap is impregnated with marine epoxy. The customer will be making his own sheaths.

Thanks, guys!

Lycosa - Should be able to. Shoot me an e-mail.

bmxr1615 - I'll send you a PM.

Phillll - The epoxy is brushed on thoroughly after wrapping. There's some technique to it afterwards, flipping it over several times to keep the epoxy from pooling on one side and so forth.

Sweet set James. I really like the handle treatment.

I like your your tomahawks are are almost flat on top but with a gentle curve, and so forward-facing, like it's alert and watchful.

Golanv - If I left the wrap as it is after the epoxy sets up, it would be pretty abrasive and uncomfortable in short order. But, I hit it with a light sanding/ScotchBrite ball and then treat it with some Howard's Feed 'N Wax, and it swiftly becomes very nice in the hand.

Mecha - That slight curve at the top acts like a roller head pry bar (some folks call it a cat's paw pry bar), allowing a good fulcrum if you need to wrench with the spike. That's most critical for the pry spike (Wrecker) version, but also works to help free the combat spike if it sticks for some reason, and does no harm on the hammer poll (Woodsman) version.

Lycosa - Slowly. :) I'll try to get it back in the mix soon.

Mike - Yep, I think table 4CC. See ya there!
