I have two neck knives i just completed and i usually ask my mentor to make my kydex sheathes for me. This time, i want to try my hand at it but i cant find any neoprene in my house to form the kydex around the knifes with and well, i cant drive either :( I was wondering if anybody had tried any other foams that make be around someones house? I was thinking about using my dads old sleeping bag mat-the foam mat you roll out over the ground before sleeping on sticks and rocks. its about a quarter inch thick and i can fold it to make it thicker. Anyways, any suggestions would be a help.
Thanks, Tanner

Neoprene rubber has high friction like most rubbers do. Are you thinking to make a sheath from it? If you are, that sounds impractical. If not, then clarification of your intent would assist forumites in helping you.

No, I was going to use it to form the kydex around the knife. sorry for making it unclear.

In MY house there's Silicone rubber foam !! That certainly will take the heat ! Foam is made in different densities or hardness .If you're buying new think about that too.

You probably don't have a yoga mat, but I've heard of using them. I found some high density foam at the dollar store. The product is a garden knee pad. Haven't used it yet though.

Good luck!

Thanks! I talked about this to my mentor a bit and he convinced me to just order some from USAKnifemakers. Maybe ill try some alternatives in the future so i have something to compare it to that i have done.
