G'day

I have a one question for the group: Does anyone know which Kami makes the Khukuri's for the Police Force& Army of Nepal as well as the Ghurka Police officers of the Singapore Brigade??

Cheers,
Brent

Welcome, Brent52!!!

Well that one is a hard one to decipher.....

I'm assuming you mean which Arun(shop) makes the khukuri's to supply the Gurkhas.
No single Kami supplies these.
Just about every maker except Himalayan Imports claims/has claimed to be the supplier to the Gurkhas.
At one time or another most probably did, and none of them specify when they did.
Khukuri House is still advertising as supplying them to the British Gurkhas, But so is Nepalese Khukuri House. For all i know these two places might be one and the same. As the contract for supply usually goes to the lowest bidder. It is too hard to tell who actually has the contract at any given time. Most Aruns dont openly display their Gov't contract.

Possibly Spiral may have a better idea who actually holds the contract at the present time. He is our resident Historian here.

This may be biased and sound as such, but the overall finished product of Himalayan Imports khukuri surpasses the quality of it's competitors. The quality of an "issued" khukuri is rather rough looking by comparison, although they are usually very servicable khukuri depending on who and where you buy them. Himalayan Imports AFAIK is the only one that offers a lifetime guarantee to the original owner.

Btw: I think this should've probably been posted in the Cantina,as the general forum here is for H.I products.

Khukuri House & a non exporting buisnesshas been the main supplier for many years, but I am sure Nepalese kukri house has had the contract on occasion.

Of course in combat zones many Gurkhas wear choose kukri they have purchased themselves or sometimes those of there relatives who also served.

Search the Archives for topics by Sylvrflcn.
There are others whom have taken them over and given them to troops, but his topics stick foremost in my mind.
Many H.I, Khukuri have been to Iraq and Afghanistan and i'm pretty sure the gulf war. The Sarge used to give them to troops on a regular basis. Most of them were donated by Cantina members, although Uncle Bill donated many himself.
There may be many still in service over there, as they were supposed to be handed down to the next group of soldiers to come along. There is wonderful stories/topics of this kind of Patriotism in the archives still.

They could also be Fakes made to command a better price.
You would'nt know how good they are until youve already spent your money.
Better to deal with a reputable dealer.
Inferior to H.I. , Yes....IMHO. A British army service from H.I. is built to last a lifetime, with a lifetime guarantee to boot. Money well spent. You wont find that elsewhere.
