Nepal Distilleries, makers of khukuri rum, are developing a website. It's at www.nepaldistilleries.com .

They have some interesting stuff. Nepal map, recipies, phrasebook, calendar, wallpaper, and a free khukrimail forwarding service. You may wish to take a few minutes to check it out.

Am awaiting confirmation of new addy:

suryachandratara@khukri.com

will know in 3-5 days if I get it. Thanks Howard.

Edit - suryachandratara refers to a khukuri-
Surya = Sun
Chandra = Moon
Tara = Stars

Thanks for the site invite Howard. Thats a really nice web site, well constructed for anywhere inthe world , I would not have expected one that nice in Nepal, from all the stories I've read from Uncle and the rest of the forumites that have been to Nepal. I keep picturing Yak and wood carts. I particularly liked the map, its the best one I've seen on the web one from the CIA I pulled up was quite crude. Now I can follow along with future stories as to where they happened. Thanks again. PS the Blue Parrot sounded intriguing.

If interested do a search of the HI archive ( the first one ) for the thread dated 9-4-99 through 9-7-99, and titled "tic-tac-toe-no, sun,moon, and stars, yes".

To make it a shorter story, Sanu made at least 3 or 4 forward curving khukuries at around 19 inches, and forged the engraving into the blades much as is done with the 18th Century model.

The forum was not as large then, and I was able to get one. It turned out to be the one the kamis at the shop had called surya, chandra, tara ( sun, moon, and stars ).

Maybe next week I will be able to bring it up for Uncle Bill to take a picture to preserve it for posterity, and to post on the forum. It's time Sanu was reminded how well his work was recieved.

T'would be a fine thing to have some of that Coronation XXX in the glass khukuri container for sipping at the Catoosa confab. I've sent off an e-mail to Nepal to see if they have a U.S. outlet.

suryachandratara@khukri.com

It's now official - confirmed this morning.

My other mail forwarding address remains:

sasquatchyeti@bigfoot.com:D

We had the Coronation Khukuri rum at the Reno convention and it did not last very long. The bottles are beautiful but don't hold much juice.

:
I usually like rum mxed with Coca Cola, but the Khukuri Rum is smooth enough to drink straight from the bottle!!!
Makes me wonder just how long the Nepali people have been making rum as it beats any other one I've ever had, not that my experience has been that extensive though.
I wouldn't mind having a bottle or four hanging around in the house in a cool dark place.:D
And it wouldn't necessarily have to be in the khukuri bottles as Uncle Bill said, "They don't hold all that much.":D

Is sugar cane grown in Nepal Bro?
I assume that's what the rum is made from?

I think they do grow some sugar down in the terai but am not certain. The Coronation is the best rum they make. They make a lower grade more affordable and that's what the locals drink. It's about the color of weak black coffee and very tough on the guts and head.

We at Nepal Distilleries are absolutely delighted to a part of discussion of this prestigious forum! We are also honoured that the members have liked our website www.nepaldistilleries.com and the web services provided in it.

Meanwhile, please note that some of the members have enquired about the availability of Coronation Khukri Rum (khukri shape bottle) in USA. We are trying to search for importers/ distributors for the same and will keep the forum updated on the same.

If you'll have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
We again thank you for your appreciation and look forward to being in USA!!

Thank you kindly. Our moderator will be along in the morning ( it's about midnight where he and I live ) and I'm sure he'll have something to say to you.

Welcome to the forum, anant. Come back and visit every now and again. Maybe someone knows someone else who knows... and you will get an enquiry about channels to import your product.

If I recall correctly, Mr. Martino was traveling years back with some of your rum and caused a stir when Narita Airport in Japan x-rayed his luggage and thought the bottles were actually khukris.

Welcome to the Cantina, Anant, and namaste!

Rusty is exactly correct about the incident at Narita. I was carrying 4 bottles of the Coronation Khukuri Rum at Narita airport and at the x-ray machine was promptly surrounded by four security guards. As we all know the bottles are shaped like a khukuri and showed as such on the machine. The guards were nervous and very stern. When I opened my carry on luggage and showed them the khukuris were actually bottles of rum they all started laughing, to the point of slapping their legs!

I say this in complete honesty. Some of the happiest evenings I spent in Nepal were spent sitting around the fireplace in the Tushita Rest House with friends, sipping Khukuri rum. And, I'll further say that although I have brought back perhaps 20 bottles of the khukuri bottled Coronation Khukuri rum I do not have a single bottle left for myself. But it is better to give than to receive.

What has all this to do with khukuris? Absolutely everything!

No words can be found to express our extreme sorrow for the sad actions which took place in New York and Washington. It must have been a difficult time for everybody in everyone's families, friends and working places. We understand that United States is getting back to normal life and that the sorrowful memories of that horror day will surely pass away.
