Nepalese Ditch Witch?

I found yet another use for these silly things that we call knives... This weekend I was installing an underground fence to keep my dogs in check. I had to bury about 1200 feet of wire 1-2" under the ground. The idea of this didn't excite me, but I figured that if I used a Khuk, at least I would enjoy it a little bit. The AK performed flawlessly. I used the blade proper, not the back-side, and it came out looking pretty good. It sliced through the grass, dirt, roots and rocks (OK it didn't slice the rocks, but it did remove them...), and when all was said and done, there were no nicks in the blade whatsoever. Granted it was pretty dull, but some steeling and Chakma-ing (is that a word?) got it back in shape quickly. I had to go to the store to get more wire, and I forgot to take the AK off of my belt. About 10 seconds after I entered, I realized that people were staring at me/it. I felt like saying "What's the matter, never seen a REAL knife before?", but I thought better of it (LOL). I merely went on my way and paid no attention. I had three kids in tote, so I didn't look too menacing... Rambling on, again, these knives are wonderful tools and good companions. Thank you Uncle!!!!

Rob,

When I first so the title I thought you found a way to use the khukuri for water witching.

Very amusing story. Were you able to witch for the cable you installed?

Rob!

LOL! I thought you want to tell something about Nepalese witch-craft!!! I believe your AK really have fascinated you (by it's performance) & your hometown folks (by it's look), while your story have succesfully fascinated me (by it's title)!

NEPAL HO!

This story has to say something about how little it takes to keep weak minds occupied , doesn't it? Too bad whatever it is eludes me at the moment.

Rob started this thread by discussing his weekend experiences with a khuk, so I thought I would share my weekend experience. Except mine left me with a nasty gash on the top of my left hand. I was doing a lot of major pruning of small trees and was having such a good time that I continued working on into the evening. Mistake! Not being able to see real well in the dark, I had my left hand resting on one branch for support as I swung mightily at an adjacent branch -- however, not being able to see my target clearly, I hit it with only a glancing blow which deflected the blade into the top of my other hand. And, as we used to say in the country, I bled like a stuck pig. I probably should have gotten the wound stitched up, but I was able to stop the bleeding so didn't bother. I figured the scar would serve as a reminder to not be so stupid in the future.

Rusty:
FYI:
That is an 18"+ AK, not a 15". BTW, Yesterday, I finished the job. I figured out that, once all of the roots, etc. are cut out of the way, a splitting maul does a nice job (when dragged) parting the soil to allow for insertion of the wire. If any of you have to repeat this exercise, I hope this helps!
