Nepali courtesy vs. face

You've talked several times about a Nepali trait being to not contradict or say no. I remember seeing something about people in Myanmar ( Burma ) saying something on the order of ( rather than wrong way, dummy ) "much better to go this way" and I've heard of the Japanese "face".

Is there something similar throughout asia? I know we have Arvind's family being Sikh up around Pakistan, Sonam having traveled throughout India, WrongFriend in Japan, Mohd in Malaysia, people knowlegeable to some extent about Tibet, Sikkim, Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, almost making a half crescent around India. What of Laos,Cambodia Khampuchea?), Vietnam, Korea, China?

Can someone ( maybe it takes someone between two cultures ) tell me if the politeness, courtesy, manners etc., have something in common or they are all different? I'm realizing how provincial those in the US are. Take this wherever you want. I'm just curious.

Edit - couldn't remember what Bhutan was called. Now I do.

I have not been to all the places mentioned but I have been to a few and I see that basic common thread of courtesy and politeness which varies some with the particular culture.

Remember the story I told of not pointing when travelling the backroads of Nepal!

Nothing says love quite like a sharp knife... Now if my wife only believed that.

That's the one that made me ask the question.
That and the picture somewhere of the sweet, benevolent, almost grandfatherly looking gurkha who doesn't look like he'd harm a fly.

Then you realize he isn't just holding a katana in his hands, there's a second katana tucked under his armpit too!

Cause whichever way you point they'll say yes, rather than tell you you are wrong.
