Nepali War - Ghurkas for Maoists? I can't believe it

I think that the Gorkha connection is probably rumor and propaganda. The beheadings I have little doubt about.

It's a mess.

The situation soesn't sound very good. The government looks like it sure needs some kind of help.
I bet a few veteran jungle fighters could give some of the Rebs. a headache. The U.S needs to do something but the way things are going they might wind up on too many fronts like Hitler did.
The guys with the most experience are now the oldest part of the population of the US.

I read somewhere that WWII vets are dying off at a rate of 1200 per day. Losing them at about one a minute -- faster than they were going while fighting.

it sounds like they could use is a few carlos hathcock's in their ranks and some guerrilla warfare training to boot. How much more successful would Nepal be if they took the war to the terrorists? i dont know anyhting really about the situation the than the links that Bill posted, but it makes me sick. without a doubt, its people who are so demented that torture is an acceptable form of warfare, against civilians nonetheless, that convinces me they deserve nothing short of death.

The "liberators" are dyed in the wool terrorists and if successful the present government will be replaced with something as bad and probably much worse.

Anything we can to help Pala and the BirGorkha gang. They are about the only segment of the Nepali population that we can directly effect - unless you know a handful of senators who can get them a healthy slice of anti-terrorist aid. King Gyanendra absolutely refuses to entertain the idea of ANY foreign troops on Nepali soil, so even training cadre are out. India has supplied FLIR-equipped choppers and ammo. More of the same type of aid would be helpful.

When you consistently rank among the 10 poorest countries of the world and then add corruption to it which takes more of the very little the people have you have the ingredients for revolution.

I don't know how to get rid of the government corruption in Nepal and I don't know how to improve the economy any more than we are. In short, I don't know what to do to save the place or I'd doing it. In the meantime, I contribute what little I can.

It's hell to be helpless but that's pretty much where we are.

The latest bombing in Kathmandu is really sad. It seems the weapon of choice for most terrorists (the bomb). Too bad so many innocent people get hurt. If they got only the ones behind the corruption might be better.
